with that, the river will rise some moderate nbc bay area thom jensen joins us live. for the people there what is the plan? >> reporter: well, try to keep high spirits and keeping their eye on the water levels here. the river has been slowly coming up even though it hasn't started raining again. but watching that ring that you are talking about, so far they are pretty lucky. andy has seen a lot of floods in the 20 years living on and near the russian river. >> the last flood we had was one of the bigger ones at 46 feet. >> reporter: tonight she watches the signs on johnson beach, the water is noticeably deeper than it was earlier in the day. it is now close to 30 feet and expecting it to come up another two or three feet before morning. still nothing like that flood three years ago, when the river reached 46 feet and flooded downtown guerneville. >> i got six feet of water in my house at that time. >> reporter: it has forced her out of her home in the past, that she has opted for a home on wheels. >> i live in a mobile home, so my home is at the top of the hill right

thom jensen continues our coverage from martinez where residents there continue to struggle to clear flooded zones. >> reporter: just off work and sarah brenton hurries to fill as many sandbags as she can from the public works yard near her work. then it's off to her parents' home in pittsburg. >> they're having flooding in their garage. not into their home, so they're pretty lucky. >> reporter: with it raining again and a week or more of nonstop rain coming, she's not taking any chances. >> i didn't realize it would be a problem or i would have done this the other day. >> reporter: some streets turned into raging rivers in danville. >> it was a rushing river with white caps and the current so strong you couldn't even cross the street. >> reporter: the swift water finally receded, and they're stacking new walls of sandbags in preparation for the storm drains ahead the rest of the week. we're trying to be more prepared. >> reporter: when nicholas martinez says the last time, he means saturday. that's when his street elm lane was knee deep in water. >> we never had these problems in th

let's begin now with nbc bay area's thom jensen along the russian river in guerneville. , what are you seeing right now? >> reporter: raj, we're in a neighborhood on mill street right now that is notorious for flooding. it seems like whenever the waters come up, these people get flooded here. many of the neighbors have been underwater here for two days now, and some of them say they've grown accustomed to this. the creek that runs along mill street and the russian river backed up and pushed floodwater into this low-lying neighborhood. neighbors have had to use flotation devices or boats to get themselves and their groceries and other goods into their homes. now they're being told the russian river could flood the entire area in deeper water late tonight or early in the morning. >> we're bracing for the worst, hoping for the best. that's all you can do when you live in a place like this. >> reporter: a lot of people from town have been going down to the johnson beach area near downtown where the russian river has already come over the bank and is flooding a park and picnic
