this isn't the first time that the racial makeup of the students here at thomas jefferson has been a point of contention. as you mentioned, these new numbers just came out and they really reveal a dramatic shift. just about a decade ago, about 50% of the students here were white and now about six out of every ten students is asian and a lot of people in the community are saying specifically black and latino students and poor students aren't necessarily getting a fair shake. let's take a peek at the numbers. we're looking at the class of 2019 now. and this really reveals again the shift that is happening here. 342 students are asian, 102 will be white, 12 hispanic and only eight black students have been admitted. again, this is a very selective and elite school here. 2841 students applied and just 493 were accepted. now, back in 2012 a complaint was filed against the county on behalf of students representing the black and latino communities. that is still and ongoing case. but again, it really kind of shows the change that is happening here and this divide that is happening. reporting
