melissa: here is lieutenant-general thomas mcinerney, fox news military analyst.re any sort of sanction out there that you think would work? >> maybe if we went directly after the chinese and did an embargo on them, and went after their banks. i don't see us doing that melissa. in addition even if we did that, we need a military build-up to show we mean business and willing to lay out what i think are critical things, particularly since the secretary of defense of the south koreans suggested that maybe we would resume our tactical nuclear alert that we had when i was the dcs operations intelligence for the pacific air forces. melissa: yeah. in addition, you have a list of things you think would show that sort of aggressive military build-up, that would be the appropriate response right now, including what other factors? >> well, i would go to bomber nuclear alert on guam. the reason i would do that, we want red china to know that the theater is changing. when i took over command of clark airbase i had nuclear alert up on formosa, as well as we had nuclear alert in

joining me with what we need to do to deal with this crisis, fox news military analyst thomas mcinerney. >> thanks for having me. trish: i there is a lot we can do on the economic front. before i give you my thoughts i want to hear yours. what do you think we should be doing? >> we have got to up the ante on the economic to include as steve mnuchin said today, cutting off all trade with china. at the same time i would be building up conventional forces in theater right now, primarily in the navy and air force, i would also put nuclear alert, get them to agree we put nuclear alert back on in south korea like when i was with operations for intelligence, i would go quietly, and for the bomber force, wouldn't advertise south korea but went on guam. if those don't send the right signals nothing will. >> the market is expressing concern looking at the dollar chart, the move into safe havens like gold that happened recently and treasury there are some jitters out there partly related to the military efforts we may engage in and you mentioned steve mnuchin, cutting off trade with china, so many

stuart: i have a frequent guest on the program, general thomas mcinerney, he is on the phone. to roll the sound bite where president trump was talking about north korea. roll it please. >> the united states has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy north korea. stuart: well that's the headline from the president's speech, certainly about north korea. general mcinerney what do you make of it? that is a direct threat, wasn't it? >> it certainly was, stuart. this will probably go down maybe the best speech by any american president to the u.n. in our history, and that's saying a lot, and he covered a lot of territory as your co-hosts there are talking about on what he said but it was very candid. it was clearly a direct threat to north korea, that you will be destroyed if you do not get rid of your north carolina clear weapons. -- nuclear weapons. that is challenging. stuart: general, do you think it was inflammatory in any way? >> no. some could say that. those that do not want to go anywher
