labor secretary thomas perez to the bay area to mediate discussions between dockworkers and their employees. nannette miranda joins us live from oakland. nearly two dozen docks are expected to reopen at some point today? >> reporter: 7:00 a.m. is what we have heard as well. people on all sides have high hopes that the labor secretary with k broker some sort of settlement to end this labor dispute dispute. tom perez is scheduled to meet both sides with the shipping company's bargaining agent the pacific maritime association and the international longshore and warehouse union. the last contract expired in july. the two sides have reached a tentative agreement on key issues but are stalled on pay and arbitration changes. the result a work slowdown. that has had a crippling effect on moving cargo through the west coast seaports from southern california to seattle, including oakland. the ports are a critical trade link not ohm fornly for our imports but also our exports, for nature's sun-grown foods profits are hurting. it hasn't been able to ship products to asia in a timely manner for months.
