among them is french astronaut, thomas pesquet, the first frenchman in history to command the iss.e is joined by two americans and an astronaut from japan. this is the third time spacex has sent a crew and outer space into the first time the company has teamed up with the european space agency. joining us for more is daniel brown, an astronomy professor based in nottingham. thank you for being with us on the program today. tell us a bit more about the main technical challenges facing the crew on this mission. >> the main challenges are obviously there is a large workload to be done. there are only a certain amount ofeople and they will have to do everything. electricity stops, they have to fix it. if you want a new machine installed, they have to fix it themselves. there is a substantial amount of work installing new panels and equipment that is being delivered. it is a key to increase the amount of people working there. these missions that spacex is providing, reusing modules and making it more commercially viable the fly more people to the iss is helpg, because we are upping the

so commander shane kimbrough, pilot megan mcarchur, thomas pesquet. and the first time a european has been coming on a nasa rocket in ten years. the nasa rockets have been grounded since the space shuttle was retired. and also a japanese astronaut, akikoa, hashide, who is a veteran of the japanese space agency and a veteran astronaut. all four on their way to is a six-month mission to the international space station. the one piece of video we're waiting to see, and we've had a little bit of a telemetry problem, but i'm waiting to see that shot of the rocket landing, the booster rocket landing out there on the drone ship in the atlantic ocean. this is all part of the spacex way of doing business. they reuse these parts. this booster rocket that is flying today was on the same flight a year ago. and the space capsule, draggone, was used a year ago. they're reusing these pieces and trying to drive down the cost all along. they're doing an awful lot of science. 200 science experiments while they're up there. but this is all part of now turning over space
