good morning, i'm thomas roberts. it's tuesday, january 14. somebody has to get the caddie shack reference, please? we will have a clip later in the show. let's get to it. leaders from both parties believe they have the votes to pass a new spending bill to avoid another bipartisan showdown. at least for now. last night lawmakers revealed nearly 1600 page document laying out a $1.1 trillion plan to fund the government for the 2014 fiscal year. the bill will reverse cuts to military pensions and provide the pentagon with $92 billion in more funding. head start will see its budget increase by $612 million which restores sequestration cuts. the bill also contains language preventing the irs from targeting political groups and does not provide any additional funding for obamacare. if the spending bill is passed, the postal service will continue to operate on saturdays and any legislation trying to ban incandescent light bulbs will be blocked. the house is expected to vote on the bill tomorrow before it then heads over to the senate. the water is on

"the new york times" reporting the nsa has used surveillance technology to infiltrate roughly 100,000 computers worldwide. now, the software, which utilizes a secret channel of radio waves can transmit data, even if the computers are not logged in to the internet. the nsa calls this digital pathway a "active defense" against foreign cyber attacks. so far, there is no evidence the nsa has used this technology here at home. now, the agency is not commenting on the extent of this program but says it does not compare to similar ones used by the chinese government. now, on friday, president obama is expected to announce several changes to the nsa. among the recommendations the president is considering, a revision of how the government uses software flaws to assist surveillance and prevent cyber attacks. >>> two students are in the hospital this morning after ano

"news nation" following news of this hour. this afternoon the senate will hold a vote on the bipartisan proposal to temporarily extend unemployment benefits. it could be the last hope for the 1.3 million americans who saw their benefits expire just before the new year. it's unclear if democrats can even get to the 60 votes needed to advance that measure. the proposal by republican senator dean heller and jack reid extends benefits for three months and comes with a hefty price tag of $6.5 billion. most republicans say they won't support it without spending cuts to offset that cost. it was in the last hour where senator reid addressed that argument while speaking to my colleague, andrea mitchell. >> our extension is just for three months so the finance committee, the committee of jurisdiction, can look at the appropriate way to pay for it if necessary. most times we have passed emergency unemployment extension bills without paying for it. we've done it a number of times since 2008. the best way to do that is not on the floor, va

the host of "way too early" thomas roberts is here as well. did you change? >> no.le a sense of exactly what we are talking about here, because i have to say, and i have been looking at the food we eat for many years closely and trying to dissect what is wrong with it, but i didn't think this was so prevalent. tell us what it is and where in the food it's not. >> it's very prevalent. what has happened is that back in the 1940s, scientists discovered if you give antibiotics to livestock, it turns out that not only are they protected from disease, but they also put on weight. >> they grow fast? >> they grow faster. what that means is lots of farmers since then have decided what we want to do is give them in their feed or in their water, you know, antibiotics and they will turn out that we will just get fatter and, therefore, they will bring more money at market. >> is it in all of the meat that we buy at grocery stores? >> it's in most of the meat you get. it turns out for ain't bicycle use about 80% of antibiotics by weight now go into food as opposed to people. >> t
