been doing some personal reading on the history of philosophy, and i was recently reading about thomas robert maltous, a british cleric who in the early 18th century who was a very provocative philosopher because he had very dark views about the future of humanity. you now know him as an adjective. people talk about a mall thusian problem. this is robert malthus. he had this very dark view that the population was growing much faster than the capacity of the world to feed the population and people were doomed to die of starvation. he took it over the edge by saying, therefore, we shouldn't help poor people because they're going to die anyway, and so let's not give them anything to help them through this. you know, pretty bleak and dire sort of a philosophy, which is why he's now known by the adjective, not known himself. and i thought about it, that it's -- you know, it was relevant for our conversation today. he was wrong because he didn't understand one crucial thing, and that is that where the supply and demand curve interse intersect, it's not static, and a supply curve changes with techno

joining us now, the moderator of "meet the press" chuck todd, we have thomas roberts with us as well,ooking at here? david ignacious talks about a moral choice to have our country. i don't think we have a choice, this is one issue. do which everybody get one? it seems like lawmakers who are shocked today might have known about a lot of what was going on. are we looking at war crimes? torture? possible prosecution? >> that's my next question. it's not a question for dianne feinstein, do you want the justice to look into this? what's next the fallout from this i think is north america is for better for worse are probably not going to be as reactive to this positively or negative will. will will be the sweep under the rug mentality. it's impact overseas i think will be a big deal. i think that, you know, we as america want moral high ground of what freedom is. what democracy is and there is going to be a lot of fallout from that in the treatment of our diplomats overseas the treatment hopefully not and potentially the treatment of our military. >> that is definitely a national insecurity

roberts much more pragmatic in approaching precedent. can, but not overruling it as much. justice stice scalia, thomas, might be less pragmatic in approaching precedent and okay, lets's overrule things because we have to extend damage done. the get the constitutional doctrine more straightened out. happened, thing that's frankly, is it has to do with the difference of opinion about executive power. to ink some justices come the court from the executive branch thinking differently about the scope of executive being unlimited which i would argue of course the framers would never have endorsed. so i think having a conception almost tive power being unlimited. not so much about the political amifications about the decisions, also it becoming a factor. i think to some extent -- having a more well developed ideology as opposed to pragmatism is another element of the conservatism that we're seeing today. appointed by president reagan in 1985 and you worked with many of president associates, including the future vice president cheney, ustice scalia, all of these people were in the justice department, what up
