. >> 24 hours of tapping clicking and coding all part of the ignite international girl's hack-a-thon. they say the aim is to help them use problems to help girls and women define a safe space, either in the real world or cyber space. >> the girl haves 24 hours the way we structured it is 24 hours the challenge is how to create increased access for girls to have access. >> the hack-a-thon is part of an international competition, all working towards the same goal. in oakland three teams of girls started saturday working two marathon 12 hour days developing their idea then writing the code to bring it to life. she says her team developed an app called talk it out in helping teen girls help other teen girls with complex issues. >> have your own profile, the two that you want to help somebody or be helped, there is going to be categories like bullying, cyber bullying, being abused, physically abused, verbally abused. >> others worked on confident coalition, and tracking girls if they go missing. nonprofit girls -- >> our mission is to empower young women of color to get excited and coding

the hack-a-thon has been taking place. >> reporter: the aim of the program is to get girls and young women to use technology to help solve the problems they face. in this case to help girls and women define a safe space. either in the real world are cyber space. >> the girls have 24 hours the way we do this. create safe places or increase access for girls to have access to safe spaces. >> reporter: the hack-a-thon is part of a competition with girls in saigon, brazil and the united states. they wrote codes and then brought their idea to life. >> you have your own profile. then you have to choose if you want to help somebody or you want to be helped. there's going to be categories like bullying, cyber bullying, being abused, physically abused, verbally abused. >> reporter: other groups worked on ohana a sensor to track girls if they go missing. a mission black girl's code is organizing the oakland team. >> our mission is to encourage young woman of color to get interested in coding and technology to hopefully become the tech leaders of tomorrow. >> reporter: the girls say they're keep

it is the annual thon to benefit children battling cancer. chad pradelli is live in state college.d, this is a remarkable event to just keeps on getting bigger and bigger. >> reporter: yes, it is, shirleen. in a little over an hour 700 dancers will walk in at the bryce jordan center and they will begin dancing and standing for 46 straight hours. behind me you see those kids right there. well, those are the captains. those are the ones that are going to be supporting those dancers but the real inspiration here is the kids. you often hear about ftk that's for the kids because the money raised here is for pediatric cancer and the four diamonds fund at penn state hershey hospital. this year's theme empower the dreamers. >> i never would have thought like leaving behind penn state this year thon would be the biggest part of my year but it is. >> the money thon raised directly impacts a hundred families starting a cancer journey and any given year about 500 that are continuing their journey. >> ♪♪ >> reporter: so, this will all begin at 6:00 p.m. this entire stadium will be packed, this
