thornberry: i yield myself one minute. i think it's important to pause for a second and think what has happened here. we have had a package of amendments that have been discussed about a equal number of republicans and democrats and talk about important issues and contributions that they've made, but mr. chairman, if a member then votes against final passage of the bill, their contributions are nullified. and i think it's important to step back and just reiterate that all of us have provisions in this bill we agree with and disagree with. we placed values on different parts of the bill. but what has happened before is that members have put aside some personal differences and still paid attention to the larger purpose of the bill, which is to support the men and women who serve our country. i hope that can happen again. and however proud members may be of the various provisions and there are a lot of good provisions from both sides of the aisle, if you don't support the final bill, you aren't accomplishing very much. i hope
