crews trying to reach a woman and two dogs who fell off a cliff in the thornton beach area. >> still developing now at this hour. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live now. what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, very active scene right now. two firefighters from daly city with a basket on their way down a cliff here on the other side of the brush and of the fence here. we're told it's a few hundred feet down as a drop, down a cliff to the beach here, near pal la saids park. and u.s. coast guard is on the way with a helicopter to try to help with this rescue. 1:00 this morning a woman and her boyfriend hiking over from thornton state beach and stranded after hiking, they fell. the man fell to the beach and was taken to the hospital. she's stuck 50 feet up is what daly city police are telling me. there's a dog with her and another dog 50 feet above her. according to state park's website, this is a closed beach but locals come here, popular to hike. don't know why they were there so late in the night or early in the morning. i also want to note, it was almost a year ago to the da

this is at thornton state bridge and the coast guard just within the past few minutes rescued her.r in the basket and they were able to take her away in the helicopter. the difficulty that rescuers had over the past six hours was that there were two dogs with her. they were pit bulls. and they were in protector mode. they were barking and threatening any rescuers that tried to rappel from the top of the cliff down to get her. so coast guard has her safely in their care right now. the next step is trying to figure out what to do with the dogs. at least one of those dogs still stuck on the side of the cliff. animal control is here on scene in daly city to try to take care of that. she was originally walking with a man here on top of the cliff. they both fell down with the dogs about midnight. they are going to have to figure out what these people were doing out there in the first place. the man had minor injuries. he will be okay. he was able to get himself up off the beach on his own. live in daly city, anne makovec, kpix 5. >>> delays continue for 580 heading through the livermore

a 54-year-old woman and two dogs walking after midnight on the treacherous trails just south of thornton state beach when they tumbled down. the man rolled to the bottom. he was banged up but walked out and called for help. he was taken to the hospital. firefighters cabled to the woman trapped about 75 to 100 feet up. her two pit bulls were still around her but acted too aggressive for the rescuers liking so the call went out to the coast guard. the airman did an initial fly over to assess the situation. the windy conditions pushed the rescue attempt back by about an hour and a half. at about 6:45 they swooped in. sky 7 hd captured the action live on the morning news. the rescue swimmer was lowered to the woman. he put her in a swing connected to the harness. they both held on tight. she was checked out by medical services and taken home by daly city police. the woman, however, was concerned about her dogs. one appeared to be injured after the fall. the other was trapped on the cliff. animal control eventually captured them both. a long dangerous morning comes to an end, no man, woman or
