see how thrive city kicked off the holidays? the news at 11 starts right now. thanks for joining us. i'm terry mcsweeney and i'm gia vang. we begin with an emergency on the san francisco bay. rescuers rushed into action to save 18 boaters after their boat capsized in the oyster point channel this morning. here's nbnbc bay ar's marianne favro with more details from oyster point in south san francisco. the mayday call came in at 840 this morning to the coast guard, saying that a wave capsized a boat and 18 people were in the water. with the help of a u.s. coast guard helicopte, the harbor patrol swiftly rescued 15 people in the oyster point channel, but there were still three people in the chilly bay. they were rescued by the brisbane harbormaster and police department. the oyster point harbormaster says all 18 plucked out of the water were part of a rowing club, and they were all in a 14 foot long platform kayak when it capsized. it happens a lot. there's a lot of kayakers that come out and they underestimate the tides, the weather. captain steve gutierrez runs

thrive city is holding what it calls a winter wonderland hanukkah celebration.00 this afternoon due to the rain. today, organizers announced that the event will now take place inside the chase center lobby. ice skating has also been canceled, but the event will still have music, food, and the lighting of the menorah. and today, the city of alameda is bringing back a special menorah to celebrate hanukkah. the chabad of alameda is putting up a seven foot tall lego menorah at washington park for the second year in a row. you're looking at video from last year's event, which was very popular. today's ceremony starts at three in the afternoon, and there will be plenty of family friendly activities such as a bounce house, music and more.
