thurgood marshall once said none of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. we got here because somebody bent down and helped us pick up those boots. i grew up in a kentucky where my family, teachers, mentors, and friends all bent down and helped me pick up my boots, and i have seen first hand what lifting up the boots of even one generation can do for every generation that comes after. see, i'm the proud grandson of a baptist preacher named orlando rustle beshear from kentucky. he and my grandmother worked every day of their lives to make sure that my dad and his brothers and sisters could become the first generation to attend college in the beshear family. my grandparents and the teachers at dawson springs independent public schools helped pick up those boots. my dad, steve beshear, is here with us tonight along with my mom, jane beshear. i am so proud of them and their service to this commonwealth.yoe change in just one generation is -- changes everything for generation to come. i see it in my kids. they now have more opportunity because a community picke

library, side by side with the papers of frederick douglass, abraham lincoln, mary church durel and thurgood marshall. rosa parks lived a life dedicated to equal rights and social justice and she helped change the country with the example she set. as a statue of rosa parks stands with pride in the capitol rotunda, in this exhibition, you will see her standing tall, quite literally, as her photos, images of her papers and videos tower more than 12 feet above you. none of this would have been possible without the generosity of the howard g. buffett foundation who made the rosa parks collection a gift to the library and to the nation. it all started when jesse holland, a journalist at the time, learned that the collection was stored away in boxes in a warehouse. he wrote a story about it, and his story was read and seen by mr. howard buffett, who bought the papers and gave them to the library so that they could be preserved, scanned and seen by everyone. jesse is now a scholar in residence in the library of congress' john w. kluge center. so that deserves a hand. the first school that we did was thurgood marshall high school. and we've done all the elementary schools in the bayview. we've done also m.l. king. i'm going to not get all of them, but we've done -- >> all the -- >> we've pretty much done all the pitch schools. there might be one or two exceptions but they are online if they are not done. we have done lincoln high school. so there's a bunch of schools in the mission that we've done. i'll send you a list of all the schools we have done. i'll send you the list of all the schools that are on deck and i'll send you some before and after pictures so you can see what they look like. >> marina. >> marina, brown, they all reflect the design principles of student-centered dining spaces. >> a video. >> yep. >> roosevelt >> roosevelt was one of the first ones we did. that was the prototype. so what happened was there was bond work happening at roosevelt, so we used that, we leveraged that opportunity to create the kind of student-centered dining space we were trying to do. and we had a grand opening for it
