. >> not far from thurmon is creston, iowa. a hospital there badly damaged by the storms forcing the evacuation of several patients. joining me now on the phone to talk about the damage in iowa is john benson from the iowa office of emergency management. good morning, john. how are you? how are things there in your community? >> well, it's been an interesting evening, to say the least, but it's been fairly quiet. i think once the sun comes up this morning, we'll have better information about the actual damages that have occurred, but it's been a quiet evening so far. >> tell me what it was like as these tornadoes rolled through there. >> well, i think one of the things that we noticed is that the weather service was very proactive about saying that this was going to be a very serious storm. we were having discussions about the potential on those on friday, so that helped us out, but it's always, you know, whenever you have a tornado or a high wind event, it's certainly one that catches your eye and, unfortunately, with both cre

travelling through the midwest to one of the hardest hit at thurmon, iowa. how is it looking?s some of the damage? i know it's dark. >> not only dark, but there's no power in the town at this point. can't get a real idea of the flashlight out and with some of the lights we have on the camera here, you can get an idea. this is one of the houses hit. a couple of their cars out here. trees down, siding torn off and one end of the house here that the roof is gone as part of it. lots of tree dj, and power lines that are down here and there's video that we have from yesterday afternoon in this thurmon, oklahoma area that shows some of the damage that's been done, gives you an idea, certainly, a lot of people's homes experiencing damage. they're saying at this point that 90% of the homes have some sort of damage, 75% of them destroyed. that's a huge percentage for a town, keep in mind it's a small town around 235 people living in town. so it's a small town, but when 75% of your town where you've lived your entire life, it's a big loss for the folks here, big stories across kansas and

. >> rick: good morning, yeah, this one coming through thurmon, iowa during the dark time around 7, 70, a lot of rain earlier in the day probably made things better, at least in nebraska, it cools the atmosphere down and it wasn't as explosive and kansas and oklahoma where we see some of the biggest pictures of the large her tornados. and here, on the outskirts of town, just pulled in around ten minutes ago and a lot of tree damage, a lot of minor home damage, at least at first look right here, but we have been able to get farther in, there's still power lines down and not letting us get farther into town. this small town, 230 population and 90 buildings in the town. take you look, i want you take you through area. and in neb rasknebraska, a ragil storm, flash flooding and cashes washed out so much precipitation and lame it hooked like snow. but this was in the northeast corner and that storm was not tornadic it was just a hill storm. some of the still pictures out of kansas, getting an idea what it looked like. a storm chaser friend of mine was there, jeremy holmes and take a look at

the mayor of thurmon, iowa, says almost his entire town was damaged, but no serious injuries. around 100 people had to find another place, though, to sleep last night. now let's get more on the tragedy in woodward, oklahoma. at least five people are dead there, and joining me now on the phone is woodward mayor rosco hill. mayor, how are things looking to you? have you had a chance to get outside and see the damage for yourself yet? >> well, you know, it is still pitch black here. we haven't got sunrise at all yet. it's still -- it's still dark. i've been out talking to emergency management people. they're on a break at our break place, and they're talking the typical talk that you get from emergency people how, well, it's at flat you knowed there and there's nothing left there, and it's -- i think it's going to be a fairly devastating scene when we can take a look at it. i think thief talked about maybe some missing people and we really don't know the extent of it yet. >> are they going door to door? are they looking for missing people? >> yes. yes. here -- we have the countie

that includes leesburg and thurmon and chantilly. easton, too, on the eastern shore. and the temperatures should be rising to near 70 during the afternoon. we'll is a lot of cloudiness around. then during the night, maybe some showers and thundershowers around midnight. and as well starting off tomorrow morning. off and on showers, maybe a passing thundershower on tuesday with highs near 80 tomorrow. and then feeling like summertime. wednesday, thursday, and friday, flip-flop days. up around 90 degrees each afternoon. not really humid, but certainly feeling like summertime. and then for the weekend, the warm pattern continues, although a bit cooler. a lot of clouds around looks like now for saturday and sunday. and there is a slight chance of passing showers on the weekend. too far ahead to say much about that. and highs near 80 on sunday afternoon. danella, good morning, how's traffic? >>> good morning. things looking good. crossing over the 14th street bridge, here's a live look now. travel lanes are open. no issues as you make your way into the city. on 395, making

much of the town of thurmon iowa has been destroyed by tornadoes there. 75% of that town is severelyne in the town of 250 has been rescued. in norfolk a large amount of mail hail fell. the hail fell on top of a couple inches of rain. now the closing of two best buy stores. nadia ramdass has more on where this leaves workers and customers. after being notified the store and the inner harbor store location will be closing for good may 12. >> it seems like it is really convenient here. it is a shame they are closing it. 15 additional retail locations. the enclosures are part of the transmation strategy and it was not an easy decision to make. reports of an inappropriate female worker. >> this has been a difficult time for retail. a large aspect of the change has been the way the internet alters our behavior, the way we shop. >> economists say while people losing their jobs may be impacted by the enclosures, it should not have an impact on the baltimore economy as a whole. people find themselves looking for work in an economy that's improved over the last few weeks. >> they say they will
