let's get to tiffany wilson live at lagoona and clay. any, what are we learning. >> reporter: well, the tow truck has just arrived here on scene, and the driver of this white car was the shooting victim. an uber driver was shot here during an attempted robbery. police on-the-scene would not confirm whether it was an uber driver, but we can see the uber sticker on the back of his car. we have that video of the uber driver getting loaded onto an ambulance. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. police say they are looking for two suspects right now. those suspects have not been caught yet, though they are following up on leads. >> sure, you can talk about crime stats. this is an unusual occurrence for this neighborhood, certainly. >> reporter: now, as you can tell the car is being loaded up as we speak. just a couple of of minutes ago there were about a dozen police officers here with multiple evidence markers. the crime scene investigation unit was here, but most of that has wrapped up now and they are just finishi

tiffany wilson reporting from napa. now we check in with amy hollyfield in santa rosa where people are being evacuated and has more information. that fire is raging behind you. >> reporter: i want to describe to you what was happening. we heard so many pops. it was all the ammunition going off, rounds and rounds, hundreds of them. this is a gun shop on fire here on bicentennial way and range avenue. so that was alarming and very dramatic. i also have battalion chief cox with me. we were talking about how the wind died and there is a big gust so you guys are not getting help from the weather. >> this fire is just very much a wind-driven fire right now. we are still seeing gusts making the fire behavior erratic. >> reporter: right before that gust it had died down for a while. you say in the hills it was a different story. >> there are still significant winds in the hills. with the changing of nighttime to daytime we are seeing change in temperatures and humidities, as well, which will only add a little more complexity. >

abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson live in novato where the couple and their two children live. tiffany, this is so difficult. >> reporter: reggie, this is a very difficult day in novato, so many people leaving comments and condolences online for the family. the president of the san francisco police officer's association is expected to speak here about stacey's passing in just about 30 minutes. he had planned to fly to las vegas this morning to help with the search efforts. instead, he drove north. to comfort. wife, mother, daughter, friend, hairstylist, simple titles do not capture the fullness of life stacey embraced. sunday night she and her husband san francisco police officer, vinny, were enjoying the route 91 harvest festival with friends. when the shots started, his training kicked in. me hupushes stacey under a barrier, and during a break in the bullets told her to run. he never saw his wife again. >> he was trying to protect his family by telling him to get away. >> reporter: all day yesterday stacey was missing. this morning the tragic facebook update from vinny's broth

abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is live outside of sfpd headquarters with this story. rter: good morning. that's right, just a few moments ago stacee etcheber's brother-in-law confirmed the family's nightmare, she is one of the 59 dead. in a facebook post this morning al etcheber says it is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow stacee etcheber has passed away, please pray for our family during this difficult time. she leaves behind two adoring beautiful children an an amazing husband. thanks to everyone for all of their support in the last few days, we will dearly miss you. stacee got separated from her husband, san francisco police officer vinnie etcheber when he told her to run during a break in the bullets while he stayed behind to help other shooting victims. later vinnie could not find her in the chaos and she was missing all day yesterday. her family hoped they would locate her in a hospital, but now we know the worst has happened. stacee is among the victims of the las vegas mass shooting. again, she is survived by her husband, san francisco police officer vinnie et

tiffany wilson is live for us in evacuation center at crosswalk community church in napa. st centers open and, tiffany, you were telling us they have essentially stopped accepting new people because there are just so many folks inside. >> reporter: yes. so many folks inside. they estimate about 300 inside. the parking lot is also completely packed. in the last couple of minutes i saw an infant in arms and a toddler as well, so we're seeing a trickle of evacuees continue throughout the morning. i also want to mention we just saw a fire truck full lights and sirens going by north on 29 and then a police officer again full lights and sirens going south on 29. the situation continues to develop around us as more and more sirens are heard throughout the morning. again, this evacuation in napa began late last night and one of the evacuees, jean, you went to sleep about 9:00 and woke up around midnight. what were the circumstances? what did you hear? >> we heard evacuate now. just get out. get whatever you can or what you need and leave. the first thing i thought of was getting my

tiffany wilson is live at the hall of justice. tiffany? >> reporter: hi there, kristen. yes, we expected testimony but jim steinle says nothing he has said is under dispute. kate's parents walked in and sat down. they called a tourist to the stand from the east coast who was on pier 14 before and during the shooting that killed kate steinle on july 1st, 2015. she testified about sitting next to a man who appeared homeless, dressed in dark clothing, who was swiveling in his chair looking at everyone who passed by, grinning and laughing to himself. she says that he made her feel uncomfortable in a way she can't quite describe. then just a moment later she heard a bang and a scream, a very sharp scream. jose garcia zerate's defense attorney says his client does have some mental issues but that is not the defense he is using. >> mental state is a very complicated thing in the law. in this case i believe that the defensive accident is really also what happened. >> reporter: again, the jury must decide whether he intentionally or accidentally shot steinle. just as i was leavin

tiffany wilson live at the hall of justice this morning. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. kate steinle's dad will be back on the stand today, he was the first witness called by the prosecution yesterday. jim steinle held back tears as he described his final moments with his daughter who was shot while they were talking together on pier 14. during opening statements the prosecutor picked up the gun that killed steinle. diana garcia told the jury that jose ines garcia zarate shot kate steinle. >> the charge is murder and in this particular context it's in the second degree and what we need to show is that he intended to fire that gun. >> reprter: seconds after the gun was fired garcia zarate threw it in the bay. his defense team contends that he picked it up wrapped in a cloth, fired it accidentally and got rid of it to make it shot shooting. the gun have been stolen from a federal ranger a couple days prior to steinle's death. the trial is expected to resume around 10:00 this morning. live in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >>> and if you are just joining us it i

tiffany wilson just tweeted that video you saw. tiffany? >> reporter: that's right, eric, we arrived about ten minutes ago. it is still a very active scene. the chp officer who hit that pedestrian was traveling northbound on highway 1 when he struck the man right in front of sam's chowder house. the pedestrian was a 74-year-old filipino man from burlingame. a worker at sam's chowder house and another bystander said the man was part of a wedding reception being celebrated at the chowder house tonight. now, that man was rendered aid by the fire department but he did die here at the scene. this happened at 8:24 p.m. a portion of highway 1 has been closed since a few minutes after the accident. highway 1 is expected to remain closed for at least four more hours, as san mateo sheriff's department continues to route cars along different side streets. but highway 1 is closed between cap i strano road and coronado street. the officer involved in the accident was taken back to the station and vallejo police will take over the investigation. it is st

that's where we find reporter tiffany wilson. hi, tiffany. >> reporter: good morning, jessica.p two passengers here at the airport around 11:00 last night and then he got on westbound 380. shortly after someone inside another vehicle started shooting on the highway. chp says the driver was hit by a bullet and crashed just east of the el camino real exit. the two passengers inside were not hurt. the uber driver is expected to survive. another black car that looked similar to the uber driver's black toyota corolla was also shot multiple times further down on 380. the people inside of that vehicle ran away before police arrived at the scene. chp has not released any information on the suspect or suspects involved. >> we're still processing that, still interviewing. we're still determining what was involved and how the situation came to be. >> reporter: chp says the crime scene stretched nearly a mile long. they shut down 380 for nearly five hours as they conducted their investigation. westbound 380 reopened just before 4:00 this morning. live at sfo, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >>

tiffany wilson, "abc7 news." >>> the winds have died down at the north bay fires, and more relief is on the way. sky map 7, you can see the fires are still very active in sonoma county, and you can see this is near sap that rosa. firefighters are about to get more assistance from the weather. meteorologist drew tuma has more. >> those winds today thankfully remained on the light side that really helped firefighters gain on those containment numbers. tonight is a similar story. winds in the north bay, anywhere from calm to less than 4 miles per hour. as as we go through the next few hours, the winds are less than 10 miles per hour and that will be the theme throughout the entire day monday. the winds are going to remain very light in the area where we have those active fires. you look at the days ahead and what is increasing are rain chances, especially thursday and into friday. that's the next chance of seeing wet weather and the start of storm season has some light storms. that's where this storm ranks on our storm impact scale, from 1 to 5. the one on thursday is a one. the north b

live in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >>> chilling new surveillance video of a man accused two people and hurting two others in lake county. it shows the suspect alan ashmore walking through a convenience store with a rifle. he grabs a two liter bottle of soda from the fridge and as he walks out he shoots at the clerk and misses. officials say the clerk who is licensed to carry and conceal a firearm grabbed his gun and shot at the suspect hitting his car. ashmore was on the run after officials found two homicide victims and two others including a chp officer injured. ashmore recently surrendered. >>> the faa investigating a second incident at sfo involving an air canada crew. air traffic control gave air canada permission to land, minutes later a controller told the pilot six times to execute a go around, that's a maneuver where the pilot aborts the landing and circles around the airport. the pilot didn't respond to that and didn't say anything when they shined the light into the cockpit. he said he had radio problems and landed the plane. in july an air canada pilot mistoo

tiffany wilson has that story from berkeley. >> reporter: early this morning residents woke to an unwelcome aid nounsment. >> they started asking us to get up, pack your stuff, and vacant the premise is. >> it blew my mind because at 4:30 in the morning, where do you expect them to go? >> reporter: notices were posted saturday at camps on both sides of the track. >> people living here on the west side filed a court order to delay the eviction process, but those just on the other side of pthe tracks on the east side di not, and that's why they were evicted this morning. morgan hail says about a dozen people did not leave the east camp before the 72 hours ran out. james davis sr. was one of them. >> i'm kind of like confused or whatever because this is the first time i've ever been through things like this. >> reporter: davis lost his apartment after a rent increase and he moved to the camp. >> i mean, i work, i have a car, it's just that i couldn't afford the rent. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. employees wore has mat suits and gloves. several dump trucks were brought in and fences were erected to ke

we found tiffany wilson, she was finding folks that were in a shelter and also some folks sending us some pictures like this. look at this. these are embers from fires. look how rapidly they were getting thrown up into the air. winds are gusting at 45 miles per hour at times in the north bay and these embers have to land somewhere and unfortunately that could have marked new fires. look at the trees using the 7now. they are incredibly fast in their advancement. one wind gust in santa rosa, 68 miles an hour. when the winds get bigger, they create their own winds, even bigger than mother nature. so the conditions were so perfect late last night that was it was conducive for these fires to pred quispread quickly. we had reports of shelter opening immediately. some residents only had a matter of minutes to get out of their house because the fires were advancing so close to them. here could you see some folks were getting woken up, they were taken to the shelters that were quickly opened in the north bay to help shelter these people that just had their life essentially turned upside down

tiffany wilson is live for us at the crosswalk community church. she's been there for many hours now. and tiffany, i know a lot of these folks have been just standing around waiting to hear information that isn't coming very fast for them. >> reporte >> reporter: that's absolutely right, reggie. and as you mentioned, some of the fire burn areas are hit-or-miss and so they're holding on to hope that their house might be one of those misareas. as opposed to one of the hit areas. even when the neighborhoods are being reported, they're still crossing their fingers. i want to tell you that the firefighter i just spoke to said this is absolutely the nightmare scenario and he only anticipates that it will get worse before it gets better. and, in fact, the conditions around us here at the evacuation center have gotten worse. there's a lot of ash falling. the smoke is pretty thick. but some good news for the first time in hours, we have seen a helicopter fly overhead. so many of these evacuees are hoping that that means aerial assistance from calfire will so
