tim kaine's biggest liability is that he has been the biggest cheerleader for barack obama's policies. to the extent he has identified with the support for president obama's failed policies that i like george allen's policies. record in virginia has problems. it is mainly because of his support for obama failed policies. i like george allen's chance. >> on the bush tax cuts, a lot of the focus is on the lame duck and what will happen. there has been a question of this. do you think republicans are going to have to accept that the high income tax brackets are going to rise? >> what is shocking is when i heard patty murray saying they would hold the u.s. economy hostage and risk a recession unless they could extract higher taxes. it struck me as very strange. as part of that uncertainty, the economy is dead in the water. unemployment remains very high. the economy is not growing. i do not know how a party in power that is a good thing. people are pessimistic about the economy and about job creation. it strikes me as odd, their obsession with raising taxes. i do not understand how raising taxes during a fragile economic recovery is good for the economy or jobs. did you do not have to take my word for

you can see behind me george allen involved in a very tight race and always tim kaine and this is parte reason why virginia is so important. this senate race is as close as can be an this is a military, of course, norfolk, the navy base, and this is going to be a very favorable place. we understand that paul ryan and his family will be here, of course, for the kick-off. we've got a couple of indications of what he's going to say from the campaign. he's going to say that governor romney is the man for the moment and together they can restore the dreams and greatness of this country. he's going to talk about how proud he's been to represent wisconsin and he's going to talk about the challenges that lie ahead. you guys have been talking about the contrasts here, the contrasts that were made clear. one of the things we talked about earlier is they're going have to right away confront the medicare issue, the medicare cuts that the congressional budget office says would take place in the ryan budget and already i've seen a tweet just now from marco rubio who, of course, was passed over for t

tim kane, a democrat that is holding his own. against former governor george allen.ain in 10 democrats are feeling that great in this environment, they are doing well. if romney were to pull away, you would see a shift in those senate races. it would likely pick up a few and enough to win control of the senate and house republicans are confident that they're going to holdouts. reporter: the minority leader now in the senate said that obviously, they would like to be the majority leader once again. he told newspapers in the last day or so, because the last two years have been particularly unproductive. the president of the united states has doubled down on the left and didn't come to the senate. the reality is the president -- he is hiding under his desk. mcconnell went on to defend the remarks he made. he said that as number one priority is to make sure that barack obama remains a one term president. if there is a switch -- if the senate were to flip over to the republican side -- how much work would actually get done in congress? clearly even in the senate, democrat

tim kaine is out with his 30-second spot a positive time as governor of virginia. we spoke with him this morning and he says he takes issue with his republican opponent george allen for running negative ads. he also says republicans aren't doing anything about the looming defense cuts that could hurt our economy. >> congress is still drawing a paycheck and they need to find a solution to avoid defense cuts. i put a solution on the table. if we let the bush tax cuts expire at year end for people making more than $500,000 a year, that will create about $500 billion in revenue over the next 10 years and we can use that to then dramatically soften any of these cuts to defense and other core priorities. >> he also says george allen wants to make the bush tax cuts permanent but that would widen the deficit and we reached out to the allen campaign. he wasn't able to appear with us this morning but we plan to have him on sometime in the future. >>> the justice department has cleared the way for virginia's new voteer id law. under the law, every registered voter will receive a voter i.d. card. it also expands the option for other items you can bring instead like a social secu
