tim allman, bbc news. you can reach me on twitter.tories we have covered. i'm @ lebo?diseko. it is always lovely to hear from you. i will have the headlines shortly. stay with us on bbc world news. hello there. this morning is starting off on a chilly note after lengthy clear skies overnight. temperatures dipping close to freezing one or two spots across the east midlands and into the south—east. however, there will be lots of sunshine through the day. a few showers around, mostly across scotland and northern ireland thanks to a weak weather front. you can see we're starting the morning off on a dry note further south. any mist and fog patches tending to clear away quite quickly. more of a breeze though, across the northern half of the country. scattering of showers for the northern isles into the outer hebrides. showery rain through central eastern scotland into northern ireland. south of here, it's dry with a little cloud here and there, like i mentioned. any early mist should tend to clear away. so, a fine morning to come for many.

tim allman, bbc news. much more coming up on bbc world news. you can reach me on twitter. all, the latest on that massive hurricane that's heading towards the eastern side of the united states. it is of course hurricane florence. it is a category four hurricane, four out of a five—point scale. sustained winds, 140 mph at the moment, but it's forecast to strengthen, with wind gusts getting up to 185mph over the next 24 hours or so. it's going to make landfall friday morning north carolina, but the effects will be felt up and down the mid—atlantic coast, with a risk of flooding, and those damaging winds as well. here in the uk, we've got a cold front sinking its way slowly southwards today, and that's going to have an effect on the temperatures. yesterday we saw highs of 25 degrees in both london and exeter, as well, but today we're looking at highs of around 18 degrees. so a 7 degrees celsius drop in temperature. not that it's going to feel cold, but it will feel a good deal cooler. this is how we have the weather over the next few hours for the early risers. a lot of cloud
