so far, tim brown is as close as they've gotten. now one related story.eek the fda approved the first drug meant to prevent the aids infection. it's called truvata and has been approved as a treatment for hiv. studies show it can also stop new infections. of course, this isn't simple. this is a drug with side effects, mostly nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. and serious ones like liver and kidney problems in people. also it's expensive, costs about $14,000 a year. it's not for everyone. truvada is meant for people at very high risk. for example, if your sex partner already has hiv. his name is tim brown. he's the only person known to be cured of hiv. elizabeth cohen joins me now. morning meeting and one producer pitched this idea about the berlin man. she said he's cured. you're always so careful about the c word. >> i'm going to use it because he says he is cured. doctors say when they look in his body for evidence of hiv, they don't find it. he's the only person in the world like this. >> do we know why he's called the berlin patient? >> he lives in berlin. he was diagnosed in 1990. he did a bone marrow transplant. his doctor said i might as well give you cells from one of few people in this world, it's a small percentage of everybody who is resistant to hiv. he found someone and give him the transplant. he doesn't have hiv anymore. >> i imagine his cure helps others with hiv and aids. >> no one else has been cured because of this. he's the only one. there are various universities that are trying to learn from him. they don't want to give people bone marrow transplants. they are dangerous and can kill you. you don't want to get one unless you have a disease

but that's the word they're using when describing tim brown. his story is an interesting one.d aids. and then he developed leukemia on top of all that, wolf. imagine as part of his treatment for leukemia, he got a bone marrow transplant. and researchers believe that bone marrow transplant, besides treating his leukemia, also taught cells in his body to become resistant to the hiv virus. i spoke to him earlier today, wolf. he's here as part of this conference to talk about the secure agenda. here's how he put it to me. does that mean you have no symptoms? you have no virus? how do you describe it? >> i quit taking my hiv medication on the day i got my first transplant. unfortunately, the leukemia came back and so i had to get a second transplant about a year later. and after the first transplant, i did very well. i gained muscle weight and went back to work. and everything was great. but the leukemia came back. my hiv was gone after like three months after the first round. totally e rradicated from my bo. >> completely gone. >> yeah. completely gone. >> reporter: now, wolf, as
