they didn't provide guidance for the current quarter, but tim cook told julia boorstin they're expectingolid year over year revenue growth for the march quarter. let's bring in evercore isi. clearly, these results were excellent, and the market is welcoming them today were there any weaknesses? >> well, i'll tell you, tuf find a lot of weaknesses on the screen the two things you worry about a little bit, ipads were below expectations again, you mentioned there's been supply constraint due to the brunt of that. the other part is, you know, just as you look at the numbers, growth rates are starting to slow down. part of that is apple just grew very fast. so the growth rates are decelerating, but this was a very impressive print and aggregate across the board for the company. >> on that top line growth point, how tight do you think they'll be to economic performance, and if there's a bit of slowdown in gdp in the u.s., do you think that will hit them if it does, do you get a rather big reaction in terms of the multiple >> it's a great question i think you have the potential for stimulus che

alex: the machine that tim cook built, they did not use it on the ipad as much as on the iphone, andhere were some components that had issue on the ipad and directed them to the iphone. they were also pretty good at managing expectations. they were suggesting it was not going to be a brilliant quarter because of the supply chain problems. that meant they were expecting more of a hit. tom: but it is a reminder that they have that agility. they do have that ability to act quickly. it is a head scratcher that a company like apple is brought down by market sentiment. surely, apple carves out a separate market. alex: it is all valued on growth. microsoft suggested that it had not been having as good of a quarter had been suggested for its cloud business. but that was better than expected in the upcoming quarter, and that is the sentiment. despite the balance sheet, apple's value of $2.6 trillion at the moment has generated cash across 90 billion. you are looking at a 2.8% market cap. the strong balance sheet is one thing. it is not one it comes to valuation as important as it was a year a

what do you make on the share reaction and the calls from 10 -- tim cook the executives? >> the share reaction was well-deserved. numbers were stunning. everyone expected apple's guidance would come in higher than the 11 port for beauty and -- 11.4 billion but nobody thought they would smash that by 13 billion, 14 billion, which they did. extremely strong performance for the iphone 13 despite it being a modest upgrade. clearly people want their hands on 5g. the apple watch and airpods did fairly well despite the fact of were pretty incremental upgrade from a year ago. >> we had a great conversation previous to this on triple take about supply chain woes. they are getting worse. this -- the port of l.a. is looking more ugly than ever. how has apple managed to navigate that so well? >> seriously impressive. it is fascinating you see tesla and other companies saying this will go into 2023 and apple saying it is easing this quarter. my take is apple has extreme pricing power and draw the most volume for supply chain partners in taiwan, japan, china, elsewhere in asia, vietnam

kim cook, -- tim cook, his commencement speech is worth reading at stanford where he says we cannot be human if everything is known about us and we have an obligation to be responsible with the data. of course while he admires gandhi and john lewis. you have people in the valley who are very thoughtful, reflective. but we need to make sure is there is a broader conversation across the platform. they have done a lot of good i am proud of representing the area. but they have a much bigger representation to the 21st century democracy. caroline: talk to us about your obligation now and your role to make laws. what is the legislative outlook for 2022 which you think could bring to bear some positive change for the social media platforms. >> we have to do two things paired by 2025, we are going to have 25 million digital jobs in this country. we need to make sure rural america, black and brown communities have access to modern prosperity's young people across the country have the ability to have opportunities in the jobs of the future. need to make sure we have an internet bill of rights. th

it is a testament to how the company has grown since tim cook took over.s like to say in the past that he was proud he could take a small table and set every apple product on that small table. a lot of these companies, hp and samsung had tons of products so -- there are several different types of ipads, apple watches and air pods now. they have been expanding the product line to get new users and that is one of the big reasons why they have grown so much so quickly. emily: well, 2t just last year. we'll have to see if 4t comes this year. i want to ask you about ces, because we had a couple more high profile pull outs. pelonton saying they are not going to the in person event. who is going to be at ces and why are they still hosting the show? >> i have three big names, samsung, qualcomm and soni. those are the three big remainders. samsung will launch a new phone later today. we will see new chip announcements from qualcomm and a slew of new tv's from sony. so, lookout for those but most companies are either not participating or sharing their product announ

it's a testament to it steve jobs and tim cook built in this company, and ironclad supply chain and newdon't need to be totally new iterations on the a riddle -- on the original product, just slight changes year after year that keep customers buying. alix: to that point, have to wonder how much of this is apple front running the ship to services they've been trying to highlight and make and how much is based on them selling a lot of stuff? emily: i think it's both. if you look at hardware and the iphone, they make up almost two thirds of apple revenue. the company is shifting to services, but that's going to take time and it's still not even close to the amount of money their hardware devices are bringing in. so yes it is a software and services company, at the core of the apple, it is a hardware company and that is what customers keep buying. alix: fair enough. emily chang, bloomberg technology. i want to get katie wright and feld on the news as well. a $3 trillion market cap, historic day for the market. i'm thinking more like a bitcoin thing? it doesn't seem like apple hitting that $

apple in particular, and i think that's different to tech i think apple in particular we've had tim cookceo for ten years or so, in that time he's been -- his execution has been phenomenal. the market cap has risen from about 350 billion to 3 trillion and a little bit down. in that time there's been almost no innovation, in apart from the apple watch. the apple tv was a bit of a flop in terms of there wasn't a real new big blockbuster products there's talk of new products like an electric car, an aton mus car. i'd say apple is probably the least, from my perspective, the least likely to grow from here in terms of maintaining the valuation it has a strong ecosystem with strong execution. so i see very little downside risk but the upside potential i see more in other big tech stocks. >> let's take on one of the other stocks, alphabet one concern for my mind this year is regulation, you have mounting lawsuits against alphabet, how are you focused on that >> we've been focussed on the regulatory risk for a long time. it's one of the themes dragging alphabet down, it's the most expo, opposed
