downtown des moines hotel... the "kirkwood hotel" was built back in 19-30... over time it was converted to apartments. now it's getting ready for another conversion... into dozens of condos. tim schutte is overseeing the project. he says the first units hit the market in just a few days... and that's keeping crews busy. there's about 6 to 8 vacancies right now that we're trying to get painted and ready for the market to hit that beginning of january the units start out at more than 150 thousand dollars. not every project in downtown des moines is going as smoothly... this was supposed to be an aquatic center... the project at the "well mark y-m-c-a" is stalled because of a lack of funding. supporters are now turning to the city... polk county... and donors to finish it. today the "prairie meadows board" will consider donating another 200 thousand dollars. that's in addition to the one million the the madrid community will gather to remember a legendary football coach... randy hinkel died of a heart attack over the weekend. he's been a fixture on the madrid sidelines for the past 26 years... making the playoffs nearly all of them. a visitation will take place in the high schoo
