tim kaine said of republicans the tea party takeover of the republican party is producing mill stones for them. he pointed to sharon angle in nevada and ken in colorado saying they are whacky with ideas about the role of government that are way outside of the mainstream that are just going to be offensive to people. your response? >> i think what the american people are sensing and the reason they are voting in such large numbers, 65,000 -- 68,000 more people voted in the republican primary in colorado than in the democratic primary is because they think that what is happening in washington is out of the mainstream. 9.5% unemployment. spending. unsustainable death. debt. i think, you know -- these races are going to be decided based on how people feel about the economy. how they feel about spending and debt. in nevada, for example, 14.2% unemployment. 70% of the home mortgages under water. if you like the way things are going in nevada i suppose that people will vote for harry reid. if they don't i think they have a good alternative in sharon angle. >> bret: the fact that six candidat

governor tim kaine proposed a tax increase. governor mcdonald took tax increases off the table.h legislators and to balance the budget by cutting spending, not by raising taxes. governor mcdonald's conservative policies and reforms did not stop with taxes. he has opened the way for more charter schools in virginia. he has established a commission on government reform to find savings and ways to make government smaller and more efficient. he passed an economic to find newpasspackage jobs. virginia has added the second- highest number of new jobs of any state, trailing only texas. adding new jobs. [applause] in august, virginia was named the most pro-business state in america. [applause] now, i must confess, i have a major problem with governor mcdonald. i am from north carolina. [laughter] he is taking jobs away from us. he has shown how to balance a budget and commit to public service, a leading north carolina and this administration in the dust.
