fox5's tisha lewis is live in alexandria with what police are now saying. annie. we do know that u.s. park police did fire shots at a suspect. it all started with a hit-and-run accident involving this suspect on george washington memorial parkway. he then led police on a chase that ended here and you can see kind of the aftermath, a few signs of what occurred last night. the suv was tape. this is all here at alexandria avenue and fort hunt road in the alexandria section of fairfax county. now, police did want to debunk a few rumors that were circulating on social media. take a listen. >> attempted to conduct a traffic stop on that vehicle and the driver led officers along with fairfax county police in a vehicle pursuit that culminated at fort hunt road and alexandria avenue. officers were not injured. and despite rumors that came out on social media, officers were not shot at. >> reporter: so, right now the suspect is said to be in critical condition at the hospital. also, police are investigating exactly what prompted officers to fire shots at the suspect.

our tisha lewis is live on the national mall this morning where he is running this morning. morning, tisha. >> reporter: well, good morning to you annie. it is sunny, it's beautiful t cold. it actually feels like it might be below freezing but that is not stopping people from just standing by and waiting for rob jones to emerge from this rv. he is running, annie, as you mentioned 31 marathons in 31 days wrapping up here at the national mall and he says that he is doing it all to raise money for three different charities that helped him during his time of need. so far he's raised $125,000. now, he is supposed to start at 7 o'clock so we're a few minutes delayed and when he does emerge from that rv behind me, we will be sure to bring that to you live but i want to talk a little bit about what he told me. he said that he wanted to take his tragedy and essentially turn night triumph. if you take a look at this video you can see what i'm talking about. he has run 31 marathons in the last 31 days across the country. and meeting so many amazing people and hearing so many different

woman in a northern virginia neighborhood is still at large >> it happened early on this morning, tisha lewis is joining us live right now from woodbridge with more on this story. tisha, what can you tell us? >> well, sarah and jim, i can tell you that the victim likely never saw it coming. that's because police say the suspect emerged from a wooded area similar to the one that you see next to me. now, investigators here at prince william's county police headquarters say theyel area, becaus the assault happened off the beaten path. so this was someone that was very familiar with the area. tonight, the suspect description is vague, all we know is that it was a man, he was about six feet tall between 140 and 150 pounds but even so, the entire incident has residents concerned. >> i have a 13-year-old granddaughter and she likes to go out with her friends and stuff. very concerning. it's just, there's a lot of things that go on in the neighborhood. but in the immediate area that we're in. we're fine. but yeah, there's a lot of things going on in here that make me feel unsafe. >> reporter: long ti

fox 5 tisha lewis is joining us live now from manassas where this has been happening, tisha, what's the latest? >> well, sarah and jim, one incident happened within walking distance from where we are right now. this manassas auto shop as you mentioned there's been three incidents in three separate neighborhoods nearby. the manager here tells us that it's not what's under your hood that the thieves it is what is under your car inside the catalytic converter that they are targeting. >> basically it's what the converter is made of. two important metal, platinum, which is really expensive, they cut the converter off, take the converter somewhere else and usually on the average, you can get anywhere from 60 to a hundred dollars per converter. >> reporter: bob steven went ons at the converters are removed in about 15 minutes flat with a saw. they're nestled underneath the car, some cars have two, now, city of manassas police say all three reports of catalytic converters being stolen came in thursday into friday and in he want each case the victim's car was parked in front of their home where
