you can get people to do things they otherwise don't want to do or you do if i trust. we've done it for 70 years based on trust and that is damaged if not broken. as we know, trust breaking any marriage is hard to get back together and it is what the ec to break it difficult to rebuild and the longer this goes on to the more difficult it will be to rebuild the trust not only for the policies of the president but also if the american people decide they like what they saw and they want to do it again, it becomes a little more difficult for people to say it's not just the president we have a problem with but maybe parts of the country and that is a judgment that will come back to haunt the country down the road. >> thank you very much. you will all have a chance to continue this discussion and reception outside. is that correct? what we have to do now is we have to reclaim civility, number one. why do we need to reclaim civility? so we can be most effective and efficient with the things we do. the american people have been very clear. even people who are big-time trump supporters, what they said, we want you, democrats to hold our president accountable. and so we are in a position to do that, but we are in a position to do something else. we are not going to spend all of our time issuing subpoenas. we want to spend our time addressing problems that address -- affect the american people on a day-to-day basis. that is what the american people want. they want us to deal with things like drugs, health care, making sure that we deal with issues like voting rights. by the way, the voting situation in our country has become in some instances very sad. we go around the world trying to get people to a democracy, but -- to adopt a democracy, but we've got people standing in lines for five to six hours to vote. voting boothshe outside the town so people can't vote. in north carolina, as

remember, we agreed to do this. some people didn't like the appropriations strategy we launched last may, chuck and mitch and i basically decided here's how we want to proceed to get appropriations become on track. some people didn't like that. you guys, remember, we agreed to do it this way. this is the strategy to write these bills and get them in law. organizing a conference on predetermined outcomes and timelines and getting buy-in ahead of time allows you to hold people accountable to fulfilling that obligation throughout the entire session. that to me is the absolute way to organize a session in a caucus. they call it caucus western call it conference. mr. kane: do you worry that in the long view of things you passed a lot of bills and history is not going to say oh my gosh, they passed five appropriations bills on time. do you worry about the big issues of immigration, debt, that you -- those are the two -- mr. ryan: those are the two i wish we could have gotten done. mr. kane: which is big her mr. ryan: debt.

so we got to do both. we have to address the issues on a day-to-day basis, what they go through every day. and there's another thing that's happening. i want us to return to a culture of normalcy. we have gotten so far afield of the way things are supposed to work in this country, and i think our caucus and i know steny hoyer has talked about this, and nancy pelosi has talked about it, trying to get back to normal. having normal hearings where not only members of congress have an opportunity to participate, but are very, very -- the public has an opportunity to participate, too. finally, one of the things that has come up is that we want to do more field hearings. i know my committee will be doing more field hearings going into the districts and the various places in the country so we can hear from americans and hear what their problems are and the things they want us to deal with. so we bring government to our doorstep. again the president has said things like we made it clear and he said that he wanted to

it can be done, you just have to learn how to do it. host: to doctors want to do this? guest: a number do. i will just mention one clinician i just spoke with last week who has been providing care for patients with parkinson's disease. he says he has not been in a physical clinic for five years. he conducts all of his business now virtually. therefore, he's able to reach patients who would not otherwise see a neurologist. 40% of people on medicare with parkinson's do not have neurologists. partly because it's hard to get to them. we don't have neurologists on every corner of america. if you could have a visit with somebody who is an expert in the field, even if it's virtual, you want to have that. this clinician is very host: satisfied being able to provide that. host:from the teaching perspective, are there statistics about the level of trust people have? people wanting the physical visit to the doctor versus a and the the computers ai and everything that goes into telehealth? guest: one example that i just cited is a good development to the story. they tried to recrui

[inaudible converstations] he's trying to do is it is very simple -- he got himself a big prison sentence and trying to get a much lesser prison sentence by making up a story. here's the thing. even if he was right it does not matter because i was allowed to do whatever i wanted to do. i was running my business a lot of different things during the campaign so very simply michael cohen is trying to get a reduced
