joining me now is country music star toby keith. toby, thank you for joining me. i know you just got back to moore. tell me your reaction on seeing this uter devastation. >> we flew out yesterday after there was another tornado that a lot of people weren't talking about the day before west of shawnee. i flew out here and went to nashville. my sister's house is about three miles down here, she got hit. so i needed to come back and assist her. so i flew back in. we circled in and she got seated up. it was pretty awful. >> i mean, moore is pretty much your hometown. these are streets that you've lived in, your family have lived in. it must feel horrendous to see what's happened. >> yeah, this -- right where we're standing right here, i'm literally standing in, i went to grade school four streets over here. it's the next grade school over from southgate. i've been on bikes and walked up all of needs streets for years. i've got a lot of family and friends here. i'd like to tell everybody to contact the salvation army or the red cross. we don't have a laundry list of wh

. >> that's country music star toby keith.re resident, talking about the people in this town, knowing how to respond to a disaster like this. there are so many examples of quick thinking and quick action that saved lives. one of those was right behind me at the moore medical center that was destroyed by the storm. there's a tornado warning the sirens went off. emergency room director dr. stephanie barger, she takes quick action and manages to move all the patients to a safe place. amazingly no one in this medical center was hurt. this doctor spoke to our very own dr. sanjay gupta. >> you were the e.r. doctor on call in the hospital that was in the middle of a major tornado. your hospital did well. how do you feel about that today? >> i don't think it's hit me really. i still don't feel like i can take any credit for that. like i said, i was just doing my job and knew what i had to do. i can't imagine -- it's very emotional, i'm like, wow, everybody did get out. but, yeah, i -- words can't even describe, you know, how i feel. l

toby keith had gone to one of those schools and it never had a storm shelter, and after 1999 the1999that did not require oldr schools to build underground shelters. that is something they are considering now. i'm sure the families wish hey had had that. many kids were traumatized by it. putting kids safety has to come first and that is under consideration. gerri: one more question, a lot of people in east coast wonder why those homes don't have basements, many of them. why is that? >> in some cases it comes down to money. people aren't loaded everywhere. these are upper-middle-class neighborhood, a lot of people's lives were saved because they were in storm shelters. the evidence is suggestive those who died, a couple at a -@7-eleven, if those people were not underground, if anybody had died underground we have not been able to pinpoint it. as a resultt they have to rethink everything. if you are going to live in tornado alley and a place that has been target time after time after time, it is something you have to consider. gerri: terrific job, we have been watching every minute of it. n
