"eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones joins us live from the scene in the northeast with the very latest todd? >> reporter: and chris just recently some of the inner lanes on this section of the boulevard were reopened, and that is easing ride home for awful lot of drivers. take a look at this picture here. this is what we're looking at a 16-inch transmission line that broke opened at 6:30 this morning and shut down this entire section of the boulevard. it tied up traffic the water service was the not impact. certainly though as day progressed here some of the outer lanes of the boulevard between grant and red lion did reopen, but replacing the the pipe will take a few more hours, meaning that right now the northbound inner lanes of this section of the boulevard again, between grant and red lion will remain closed throughout the the rush hour this evening. now, late this afternoon two of the three inner southbound lanes, again of this section of the boulevard were reopened meaning right now, five of the six southbound lanes of the boulevard are opened. that is certainly eased conge

"eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live in our sat center with more on the crash and simon'ssive career. todd. >> reporter: jessica reporter bob simon was killed tonight in a car crash in manhattan when the liver row car he was in crashed no another vehicle. the 73-year-old was riding in the back seat. according to police the driver of the lincoln town karzai mon was in hit another car that was stopped at a red light. simon was found unconscious and unresponsive by emergency personnel just before 7:00 tonight with injuries to his head and torso. he was taken to st. luke's roosevelt hospital where he was pronounced dead. the broadcaster covered some of the biggest events over the past 50 years. in 1991 simon and his crew were released by iraqi government after being held captive for almost six weeks. they were taken hostage during their coverage of the gulf war. simon and his crew suffered through hard ships including beatings and threats. >> the bridge honors the grand dragon. kkk. >> simon as a correspondent for 60 minutes reported on the movie selma. he also covered the vie

todd quinones has the new information. >> reporter: in a bizarre case of now you see me, now you don't and now you do again andrew bittle turned himself in on thursday. the egg harbor township man wanted for allegedly staging a boating accident and disappearing in order to escape criminal charges. authorities were unable to track down the 45-year-old after he seemingly vanished in late july. tom murphy was the good samaritan who jump in the water that night in longport. he was responding to cries for help and he pulled a man who was in the boat with bittle safely to shore. and thursday night we talked to murphy over the phone. >> i really hope they throw the book at him. i hope he get the max penalties. i'm pretty angry about it. just to put other people's lives at risk trying to pull off a ridiculous absurd stunt and just the fact that he thought he can get away with something like that is beyond belief to me. >> reporter: andrew bittle surrendered to prosecutors in atlantic county. bittle and his partner being investigateinvestigated for fraud len boat sales. >> and at this point it'
