. >>> for a look at your national weather, let's look in with meteorologist todd santos. >> good to see you. good morning. 354 million miles, a little longer than most of us traveled for the holiday. want to talk about travel. a number of us getting on the roads, heading into the skies today. we'll be dealing with a chances for showers in the east. you see the cold front extending from the canadian border. north of the border, we see a little bit of snowfall. but for the most part, we're dealing with rain. the milder side of things, temperature-wise, across the east coast. you have that high pressure still entrenched. that's going to keep areas around new york, boston, on the dry, quiet side of things. still warm. but down to the south, it's this area of low pressure that's taking over. and notice that some of the cooler air, we're dealing with cooler temperatures back through texas. we're going to wrap some of that up in there. and a cool pocket aloft maybe able to get some snow going, especially later on tonight. maybe in the evening hours. around jackson, back towards memphis. jackso

and now for a look at your national weather, let's check in with todd santos. he has the weather channel forecast. chicago folks are used to this weather. >> they are. they have the nickname for the city. the one issue as far as travel is concerned, 500 or so flights canceled out of o'hare. winds coming out of the west. that's the latest on o'hare. the backside of the system, wind should be settling down there. you notice the system, it dropped that snow across the south including again northern portion of mississippi, western tennessee, has now made its way to the north is in motion leaving the major cities on the quieter side of things and setting us up for cooler conditions. cleveland may see a few snow flaction flakes. we'll be dealing with the potential for a little bit of lake effect to get going. the system though in motion should not last very long. we have had a few totals back to northern and central indiana, upwards of even 10 inches. so a decent snow producer. there winter storm warnings expire later on this morning. we're already seeing a few of th

. >>> let's check in for your national weather with todd santos. good morning, todd. lots going on. >> lots going on. for chicago, winds dropping back to 5 miles per hour. a big improvement there. we are going to start to see winds picking up over the next couple of days across a good portion of the west. underneath some of the clouds you are seeing here on the satellite and radar together, little bit of snowfall copping down. at least still across eastern portions of michigan and lot of that now channeling up into southeastern canada and see some of the showers exiting the major cities. if you are headed out to the east coast looking fairly good from boston through d.c., look at this system. starting to see some cooler air channeling in down towards billings where snow falling across the bitter roots and getting down into the tetons. late tonight and early tomorrow morning, even start to get some of that back towards denver itself. winter storm watches in effect that go -- really say later on this evening into early thursday morning. some of the winter storm warnings

now for a look at your national and regional weather, let's check in with meteorologist todd santos with your weather channel forecast. >> it also caused flight delays. 525 flights canceled just out of o'hare. today an improvement as far as winds are concerned. northwest gust around 21 miles per hour, 14 at the moment. so, again, for today we'll see winds coming in more out of the west, dropping back to 10 mile per hour. starting to wind down, good news for many folks flying, especially in and around chicago. look at the system. this is the same system that dropped snow down in the south. at this point we've seen a few bigger numbers especially back towards northeastern indiana. yesterday we had 10 inches in peru, indiana. you can see the conveyor belt of moisture, some leaving boston but early this morning travelers be ready to deal with a few spots of ponding on the roadway. winter storm warnings expire at 7 a.m. enough to keep some of the snow on the ground, maybe a few slick spots and maybe a few with melting that took place yesterday and this morning across tennessee and northern mi

let's get a check on weather from nbc meteorologist todd santos with us this week. y, todd. >> good morning to you, willie. you know, interesting to see the two flags at the capitol building actually kinding pointing towards one another there. so, hey, we'll see at least some gusty winds around the capitol today, though we will also start to see showers building in towards d.c. shortly. again, looking at least on radar, you can see a few of those showers, especially outside richmond, the line itself is about 20 miles to the west of richmond itself, but as that closes in on d.c., especially later this morning, may start to interfere with your morning commute. not so much at least for the next couple hours, so that's good news. we are seeing some showers around philly and they are actually reporting along with that temperature of 61 degrees a visibility of three miles. again, with some light showers. so keep that in mind. air travelwise, we'll likely see some issues across the entire northeast corridor as we work especially through the later afternoon and evening hours

getting your weather from todd santos. good morning. >> if you stepped outside today, so far in new york, beautiful temperatures. again, an extension of the weekend at least weather-wise across the area. you see some showers showing up behind me, across western portions of new york. western or northwestern pennsylvania. we'll see through that buffalo, pittsburgh. there's a look at some of the temperatures as you start off today. again, a lot of 50s showing up on the map. by late their afternoon, we're looking at some 60s, extending toward philly. d.c., as well. on the dry side of things today. tomorrow, we see showers move into the area. and a few areas, including jacksonville, nashville, some snowfall setting up later this evening and in the early morning hours of tomorrow. tomorrow, travel-wises, some areas to look out for. today, atlanta, back down in the gulf coast, along florida. those are some of the best chance areas for delays. back up towards cincinnati, columbus, ohio. there's a quick look at temperatures across

todd santos is tracking the storm from the headquarters and you are focused in the texas area. a lot of problem. >> yes. the whole set up are channelling the activity back in texas and it's riding up towards the northeast. this is what we are looking at. a few showers in pennsylvania. the area of concern for today is back towards dallas with potential severe thunderstorms. we had a few of those and a couple of these and some of that channelling over western oklahoma. the bigger threat was the hail potential through the afternoon and evening. we will see better chances and maybe even for tornadic storms and wind gusts and additional hail. once you get to the northeast, the best chance into tomorrow may be showers over into the 95 corridor and especially for new york. it's tomorrow and into wednesday. we start to see them taking hold across the area. back towards atlanta, delays earlier on and looking good. most of the showers to the north, streaming some of those through northern portions of mississippi as well. you look towards texas and a lot of activity and most is off to the
