the weather channel's todd santos is in for bill karins. he's probably taking a break from this heat wave. you are stuck to deal with it and all the complaints. i'm sure you got plenty of it. >> i think a lot of folks in the southwest this time of year know what to do. >> this is record heat, right? >> terrifying when you talk about record heat in a country that's really the hottest we have to offer. death valley, southwest. >> it's called death valley for a reason. >> there may be some revisions to that top number at 128 at the moment. there's a look at excessive heat warnings in effect. they start just to the west of where the yarnell fire is. the firefighters will be dealing with temperatures close to 109. vegas 117. if you hit that today you'll be tying that all-time record once again. 97 degrees right now. just after 4:00 a.m. we'll continue to deal with a chance for pop-up showers through the afternoon. not much going on across the southeast. noticeably some green showing up. the rain potential the next few days. that heat going all t

. >>> once again the weather channel's todd santos is in for bill karins. and todd, this has been a record of a week so far. where does that leave tuesday? >> still record forecasts for places like boise, idaho. we're seeing more of the extreme numbers. yesterday only one degree away from an all-time record for boise, 110. today the forecast just a couple degrees above the record there. see some of the excessive heat advisories. the orange. excessive heat warnings. as we get through the next couple of days, we'll slowly so the heat back off. a lot of those advisories and warnings drop off into tomorrow. temperatures right now 95 in vegas. 94 in phoenix. that's a warm start. 83 in boise. that's a warm start for you. could see a chance for a fire or thunderstorm to fire up later in the afternoon. that may be the one issue as far as the yarnell hill fire is concerned. winds in general should cooperate. may see some of those showers pop up around the southern edge of the four corners. and erratic wind behavior. there's a look at the forecast. a very warm one thr

let's get to todd santos to check on weather. it's a little wet in new york as we look at the view from the top of the rock. we might get a decent 4th in the northeast. >> the forecast for the 4th is certain to look a little better. still hanging on to clouds in the northeast, but at least backing off the rain chances. maybe pushing that towards the ohio valley. for this morning, similar to yesterday. still murky out there. temperatures in the 70s. 77 in d.c. right now. noticing some of the showers across the 95. a few spots with light rain. if you remember yesterday, it looked about the same and ended up being big airline delays. notice a few showers on 84. earlier on a couple lightning producers. those have backed off. still a flash flood potential. could see a few spots upwards of an inch to two inches. chance for thunderstorms. may see sun a times, but have the umbrella handy. >>> coming up at the top of the hour, edward snowden, the man without a home. they will break down the nsa leaker that not even putin wants to deal wit

let's check in with todd santos with that latest on that part of the country. >> it's a devastating story, specially when you involve not that big of a fire with homes. the heat, we're talking about some of the areas, especially just to the west and north. talking about the excessive heat warnings for the fire area. you can be talking about winds. we could see a pop-up shower or thunderstorms. that could drive the winds in the 30-mile-per-hour range. vegas, close to the all-time record for las vegas. 117 is the forecast from today. that would tie it. still some showers across the southwest right now. a lot of those are starting to fall apart. get some daytime heating. northeast corridor some showers. northwest jersey, eastern pennsylvania. pockets of moderate rain. this afternoon, we'll see a chance for airline disruptions. >>> one year after egyptians chose mohamed morsi as their president, hundreds of thousands of protesters are calling for him to resign. the demonstrations have been massive, appearing larger than the ones that overthrew former president hosni mubarak two years ago. we

todd santos with a check on the deadly heat out west. we've seen the ravages already. >> just some insane numbers. when talking about near record temperatures in the southwest this time of year, imagine we're talking extreme even still continuing the next couple days. back towards vegas the 117 would tie again the all-time highest number they've seen in vegas. we had it yesterday. they may be close to it again. notice the fire there in through western arizona that is just let's say to the east of where some of the excessive heat warnings are in place. you're talking for the fire fight, temperatures again around the 109 degree range, could see gusty winds if we manage to fire up thunderstorms later today. 98 degrees in vegas, it is 3:11 in the morning. you get the idea. that's the starting point. northeast, that's one of the areas we could see showers, and thunderstorms. airline wise notice a few southwest of philly, through northern jersey as well. maybe a chance for lightning and a look at at least later this afternoon be ready for pop-
