ramin mellegard joins us from the tokyo stock exchange to tell us about what he is seeing here in tokyo. ramin, what can you tell us? >> as you said, the equities on a bit of a cautious tone here. we're seeing that for japanese stocks as well. let's not forget a persistently strong yen is really holding back some major moves as well. let's have a look at how the nikkei and the topix are kicking off this tuesday morning. april 12th. and actually, they were both trading a little bit in the negative, which is seeing a turn-around here for both the nikkei and topix. we'll see how that progresses. now, the stronger yen meant further losses for exporters. down about 17% so far this year. japanese companies also getting ready to start reporting their earnings this ploeth. just a reminder in the u.s., alcoa actually came out and reported a 92% drop in first quarter net profits, citing slower demand. also as it's trying to restrek tur its own business selling off some of its units into a different company actually. now, later this week, some of the major banks, jpmorgan chase, citibank and bank

i'm raja pradhan in tokyo. the organizers of the tokyo olympics and paralympics are moving closer to united states choosing official emblems. that i unveiled four sets of logos after those last july were scrapped after allegations of plagiarism. more than 14,000 entries were submitted in the competition. the committee officials widdled the set down to four sets. set a features checkered patterns in indigo blue. they are laid out in japanese style. set b expresses the connection between athletes and spectators as well as the spreading of peace and harmony around the world. set c is inspired by the japanese gods of wind and thunder and represent the athletes's endeavors. and set d features morning glory flowers to express the bright faces of athletes and spectators. they selected a pair of logos and had to retract them following allegations of plagiarism. they faced criticism and lacked transparency. >> it's a good idea to reflect public opinion. >> translator: i hope everyone can understand the selection process
