tom and chad rode horseback into camp three fulls days before sheep season. riding up into the mountains with a pack train of supplies is an adventure in itself, as managing a team of horses on the trail is an art. arriving in a beautiful mountain valley, the horses are unpacked, unsaddled, and camp set up. >> a couple techniques we use for getting close to stone sheep--it is a wilderness area, so they don't see a lot of people, but they've definitely been hunted, and most of the sheep that we're after are over eight years old. they've definitely had some experience with predators, including humans. traditionally, we'll go up and look around, spend a lot of time glassing. very few people hunt stone sheep with a bow and arrow. the record books will show that, especially pope and young. it's one of the smallest categories. traditionally, it's a rifle sport. it's a long-distance, you know, spot, stalk, get in under 300 yards, 400 yards, and find a big ram, and try to harvest it. so to do it with a bow is phenomenal. trying to get in close with the bow and arrow
