you were on with tom bevin and carl cannon. >> good morning, guys. i just want to give you some kudos for fine job you're doing and bringing out the issues that a lot of people don't want to cover. a couple things, though, that are not covered that we would hope that you guys are going to put some effort into. we vntd heard of hillary and bernie on one ticket. we haven't heard that yet. we haven't seen you guys put the feet to the fire for donald trump either. and, you know, all the candidates are dodging one major issue. and that's on the firearms issue. if you want to do a poll that will drive everybody crazy, this will do. >> that's a lot town pack. let's give charl a chance to address those things. go aed had, carl. >> well, let me take them in order. hillary clinton isn't talking about a running mate yet. there is some speculation who she would choose. there is no obvious person. i guess bernie sand arz is going to go to the convention in philadelphia there with about half as many delegates as hillary clinton, i suspect. nobody else has any. he'

tom bevin is the co-founder of real politics online. thank you for being here. there is a piece out today that says trump is great at winning primaries, but bad at securing delegates needed in case of a contested convention. does that about sum it up? >> it does. trump is playing big ball. he's trying to win votes and states and he's trying to accrue the delegates that are supposed to come with that. cruz is playing small ball. he's working these individual states, this process by which the delegates are selected and he's doing a pretty good job of putting his people in those positions so that when they get to cleveland in july, even though trump will have a lead in the overall delegate count of which of those folks are bound on the first ballot, trump may have more folks loyal to him. >> cruz may have folks who are loyal to him you're saying. >> yes, i'm sorry. cruz may have folks. >> cruz's strategy is basically death by a thousand cuts to trump. he can't knock him out with some big win in new york. he's not going to knock him out with some big win in californ

all right, joining us in chicago, cofounder and executive editor of real clear politics, tom bevin.nbc news correspondent, hallie jackson, who's covering the cruz campaign. hallie, with we'll start with you. donald trump was on twitter bright and early this morning. what's he saying? >> he's up and at 'em, taking aim at ted cruz and john kasich. he says lyin' ted cruz can't win with the voters, so he has to sell himself to the bosses. trump tweeting, i am millions of votes ahead, hillary will destroy him. and kasich only looks okay in polls against hillary, because nobody has put negative ads out against him. so trump continuing this attack we've seen that the system is not demographic and ted cruz is taking advantage of the rules. trump clearly displeased with how wyoming played out. saturday, ted cruz basically swept the 14 at-large delegates that wyoming had at stake to send to the national convention. we were there. we just got the red eye from back out west here to baltimore where ted cruz will be today. and we had a chance to talk with some of those delegates. some of them sup

joining us from chicago, tom bevin from real clear politics and here in new york city philip bump reportingashington post." what do you think mcconnell went out and said that he doesn't think trump is going to get it on the first round? >> i think that the republican establishment is trying to set the expectation that this thing could be a contested convention. they need to -- there is a poll that just came out nbc "wall street journal" said six out of 10 republicans think whoever comes in with the most votes should be the nominee. if this thing goes to a contested convention, if donald trump doesn't have the delegates he needs. the republican establishment needs to set the expectation this is a thing that could happen. >> this is a normal thing. it's not going to be a catastrophe. >> right. >> it's just part of the system. >> so they are already starting now. do you concur with that mr. bevin? >> i do. just shows what a mess the republicans have on their hand. mitch mcconnell despises ted cruz. he certainly wants to get to a fresh face scenario to protect his majority. still mentioned that

tom bev vein -- tom bev vein -- bevin is here. are you sensing any half. in indiana?sterday. we only eave an -- anecdotal evidence but we don't have hard data to find out if the kashich supporters will swing to cruz or the impact of the carly fiorina announcement. >> you mentioned anecdotal, and our people have asked people, are you switching? the ones we talked to said no. and others have said i don't like this whole thing. >> it does seem to have turned some people off. i've seen some interviews with some kashich supporter that didn't go to cruz and went to trump. there's also the issue, shep, that there's been early voting in the state of indiana for almost the entire month and there have been 140,000 votes cast, and i think there are 68% republicans so that would net out to 19 or-20,000 votes of that if the polls accurate would have voted for john kashich, they can't those votes back. >> they're trying to keep the not trump crowd, the "krasich --" they're trying to keep donald trump from getting to 50%. it's not a within take all state but you can winner take most
