earlier i spoke with tom brokaw and corresponded mike bets are wall. western side of the tom, i doubt if any of you watching the scene believed it was happening. talk to us about what you have been experiencing. has been a very giddy day. the remarkable thing is the east announcedmunist party this almost as an accident. then when the word began to spread throughout east and west , than control was lost on both sides. the people came here and effectively lost control of the ball. when theon these side east german kids started to climb the wall. no one thought the east germans would be able to cross over. you looked over and all of a sudden, several hundred east germans are running and they just would not stop. they ran up to the wall. they started pulling them up by the hundreds. -- tom: and we are told they can move through all of the checkpoints very easily. the question is, what will this mean for the east german ?ommunist party will it be the undoing of the party? that will play out in the next several weeks, months, maybe as long as a year. do you h

only one network anchor was there, broadcasting live, nbc's tom brokaw. >> now, on this 30th anniversaryn berlin to see how germany is marking this historic day and to look at the exclusive of a lifetime. tom, good morning to you. >> good morning. the fall of the berlin wall, of course, was more than just an important episode in the 20th century. it was also on the long reach of history. in it, it really affectedly ended the soviet union. germany was reunited. but it's not been easy. there's a lot of work still to be done in this country, putting it back together again. in some way, this may have been the easy part. good evening, live from the berlin wall, on the most historic night in this wall's history. the seemingly impossible chain of events that breached the most bitter divide of the cold war, and bridged the divide of germans, east and west. but it wasn't as simple as that. it never is. the german people were cruelly separated from one another for decades. the same heritage but living ei radically different lives. important to keep this as a symbol of what happened. >> of course.

yesterday, tom brokaw, someone who everyone respects in the media, he said i don't see it and i don't see what democrats are basing this on. he contrasted it with the lenten impeachment process where they were clear facts. they don't have that here and that's why so many of us are frustrated. scott: what do you think the white house should be doing to fight impeachment as it goes forward into these public hearings? do they need to set up a war room? it seems like mr. mulvaney has been sidelined on a lot of these issues. do they need a point person at the white house to be leading the charge against impeachment? what do they need to do better? rep. johnson: i suppose they could study what previous administrations have done. this is exceedingly rare, this is only the fourth time in u.s. history this has happened, and there is good reason for that. we remember during the clinton impeachment, i think they did have a war room and a point person over the effort to guard the president's interests. this is a very serious matter, it does not get more serious than this, and i think the presiden
