learned he's going to be meeting with a couple of democratic senators, joe manchin of west virginia, tom carper of delaware, what more are you learning about that? >> he has a ton of meetings scheduled this week, two meetings starting today, individual one on one meetings between senator joe manchin and president biden, joe manchin has been someone who's said he does not want to get infrastructure passed just with democrats, he wants to try to get republicans on board, that's something the white house has said president biden is open to, compromising. whether or not it actually happens is far from certain. he is starting the meeting out, meeting this week with the two of those but then he is also hosting congressional leadership at the white house on wednesday. that's going to be chuck schumer and nancy pelosi, but also mitch mcconnell who recently made a comment about trying to block biden's agenda, and kevin mccarthy who has complained multiple times that president biden has not called him and have not spoken since the day president biden was inaugurated and later on this week he is meeting w

secretary of state hillary clinton; my chairman and ranking member of homeland security senator tom carper; the chairwoman of judiciary in the past, senator feinstein; the current chairman of the finance committee, senator wyden. at the time the senator from ohio, senator brown, was a member of the house, and he voted for it in the house. so again, that's only 14, 15 years ago when securing the border was actually a bipartisan goal. what happened? why isn't that the case now? why has securing the border become a partisan issue? well, politics happened. i wasn't here between 2006 and 2011, but i know there are multiple good-faith efforts to pass an immigration bill. they often refer to it as comprehensive immigration reform. when i got here that work was going on and we passed an immigration bill. i remember when i talked to senator mccain, one of the leading proponents, and i did suggest i would stop using the word comprehensive. i don't think we do a very good job doing things comprehensively here. we ought to take a step-by-step approach. senator mccain was not real happy with my comment

the chairman of homeland security and then my ranking member when i was chairman, senator tom carper voted for it. senator feinstein and senator wyden and senator sherrod brown voted for it as a house member back in 2006. we need a fence. walls work. i think we admitted that fact after january 6 when we put a double layer of seven- or eight-foot-high fencing and needed it up for way longer than it needed to be left up. so here in congress we're happy to put up fence, put up walls as long as it's protecting us. i think it's about time that we build a wall to protect the rest of america. now, what my amendment did is it simply required the administration to complete construction on the part of the wall that's already been contracted. we built about 450 miles. 250 has been contracted. we're going to have to pay for it whether we build it or not. that's all my amendment did is don't waste the american taxpayer money. which if we don't pass my amendment, that's exactly what's going to happen. but i do want to take a little bit of time, seeing as we have a lot of time here tonight, and we
