. >> tom: davis. welcoming you to the studio right above the field. told me the night before, are they improving? >> you know something, there is no way to tell right now, tom. i would like to say yes they are, but the win loss record doesn't indicate that with any one of them. what i look for, for the rest of the season, i'm not going to evaluate these guys on their win/loss. berken has two wins on the season. i can't evaluate them. what i want to see when they go out to the mound, i want to see the way they handle adversity. this is what i look for, going into next season. the orioles aren't going anywhere, they are not going to play in a playoff or have a wild card berth so far this season. what i want to do, every single young guy that comes in here to pitch, i want to see the way he pushes hitters around the battedder's box. what he has learned about what they are capable of doing as compared to what the pitcher on the mound is capable of doing. when you need to pitch inside, you need to play hard ball. that is what i want to see these guys doing

' a-- allowed a couple of runs.somebody improving, what do you look for out of pitchers improving? >> i think one of the biggest hurdle any young pitcher has to get across once you gets to the major league level is throw his breaking ball over the plate when he is behind in the count. that seems to be the little iffy area with most of them. like they did in the minor leagues u-they got behind in the cowfnlt they threw theirfastballs whether it be inside or outside. most of the time they could overpower pitchers. that's why these guys are at the major league level because they could do that at the minor league level. once you get up here, you can't throw as many fastballs by the big boys. you got to learn to change speeds. you've got to learn to throw things in counts where you're in fastball counts so the breaking ball in breaking ball counts throw the fastball. you kind of switch things up. one you get over the hump, once you get a pitcher who feels comfortable shaking his head yes when you call for the slider or f

tom davis with rick deafcy here in our masn studios.if you go back in time, this man came up with the minnesota twins way back in the 60s, but they played in the metro dome and metro poll stan stadium and will have a new ballpark in 2010. kind of interesting, during your lifespan, three ballparks for minnesota. >> i played my first major league game in in 1969, and i will never forget how cold it was there. open our stadium. i was there, made the ball club in 1970, and i can remember the two and a half foot of snow they had outside the stadium and trying to play baseball in there was just horrible, but minnesota finally did the right thing, got a domed stadium, and then it was nice and warm always in there, and very easy to hit. it's very tough to hit when you're in an open air stadium in minnesota. with that much cold, sometimes it's town in the teens, and i just can't see them playing baseball in an open air stadium, eastern if it is a beautiful ballpark. >> between ten for the new ballpark in minneapolis. now we'll go out to the metr

tom davis with rick dempsey. last night the orioles lost 7- 6.ers. what did you see from the game, rick? >> well, say there's not a lot of hitting with men in scoring position. and they're giving up a lot of opportunity right now. seems like aubrey huff left the team, the middle of that line- up has struggled to get guys in. i know that trembley has used a million different line-ups since that all-star break trying to find something that will produce some runs for the orioles. they're struggles on the road now, also. they have struggled all season on the road. >> last night the young pitcher had 7 hits, a couple of walk asks three runs. he sums up his work last night. >> i didn't think i had my best stuff today. i never really good go spot a groove. i was never really consistent, and the tempo of today's game was pretty slow from the get go on both sides, so it was really tough to get out there and get in a good groove, but, you know, i thought i was able to battle today. >> we hit the ball, had guys on base, put up some runs, but just didn't get
