. ♪ announcer: this week on "q&a," judicial watch president tom fitton. mr.itton discusses his book, "clean house: exposing our government's secrets and lies." brian: tom fitton of judicial watch, your new book is called "clean house." why did you call it that? tom: we are looking forward. there's been a lot of concern about the corruption and washington, d.c., during the bush-obama era, because i think that is way to think about it. people think the system is broken and there is inherent corruption and everything the government does. i tend to share that point of view and i think our success points a way forward. that there is a way of holding the government to account. judicial watch is able to have these successes, in terms of getting government information and getting changes in the way government operates or the way politicians operate. and it is not all bad, and there are certain reforms and ways of approaching discussions of public policy in washington that ought to be thought about. we try to raise that in a forward-looking way. you know, what struck

first, tom fitton, to you.cally sucks up to the clintons most of the time, it's a pretty solid report, it seems to me. it shows that bill clinton took $13 million in taxpayers' money to support people, his employees, when his foundation was generating $2 billion of money over that time. how can this be allowed? >> well, you know, there's a certain subsidy that former presidents get to run their officesment but according to the politico report, the money that clinton was seeking were far beyond anything any other former president was asking for. and it raises the question again who was running this e-mail server and was it truly private? we've never believed it was private in any legal sense. and here quite literally you have an allegation suggesting that taxpayer money was used to set up this allegedly private server from which mrs. clinton or on which mrs. clinton conducted all of her government business. and when asked for the records, she destroyed half of them. you know, lots of crimes potentially there and

tom fitton is calling this absolutely corrupt process, do you agree with him? >> well, we don't know the reason for the delay emac. on its face it does appear to be corrupt when. fbi director comey on july 5th, the same day and at the same time he revealed he was recommending that charges not be pressed against secretary clinton said that the fbi recovered thousands, plural, of work related e-mails, we had no idea how many thousand. 14,000+, nearly 15,000 work related e-mails that mrs. clinton and her people failed to surrender to the state department as she was ordered to do by several federal judges, which the fbi found after going through all of the e-mails. the question now is what's in those nearly 15,000, and why won't the american public be able to see them until after election day and unfortunately won't get a satisfying answer to that. liz: judge, because you're an expert and watching and terrific government watchdog, what do you think is going on behind the scenes here? >> i think that the state department has succeeded in persuading a federal judge t

what you have learned about hillary clinton, you, yourself, tom fitton?ve learned from looking at all of this stuff that you have a unique vantage point. it all comes through you. what you have learned. >> i learned mrs. clinton didn't want anyone to see her emails. she did her darnedest to prevent that from happening. if it happened she wanted you to go through her lawyer and only get a little bit of what she h and all that has been upended. and in many ways i have learned that mrs. clinton is the same as she ever was in terms of being a legally secretive in her approach to government service. >> okay. so it was all about she didn't want people knowing what she was doing did you learn of anything that would bring charges against her? i mean, you know, there is a big controversy with the fbi and all of that you are a lawyer, right? >> i'm not a lawyer. but i i have enough experience to know there is evidence of a crime when you start taking thousands of records and deleting them. when you take government records away from the state department and then del
