tom foreman is here to explain it all. so tom, with trump appearing as you know, obviously, the clock is starting to tick. a lot is happening immediately. tell us what's going on. >> when he stood up in court, that started the clock and the calendar moving. why? constitutionally, we are guaranteed a speedy trial, but in 1974, the speedy trial act came along and put finer teeth on that and said the act establishes time limits for completing the various stages of a federal criminal prosecution. trial must commence within 70 days from the date the indictment was filed or from the date the defendant appears before an officer of the court. in which the charge is pending. that happened today. which ever is later. the reason this was put into place is because you want trial to move along quickly to keep the accused from waiting in jail. donald trump is not in jail, but many people are so you want to say you can't serve a sentence waiting to be tried. that is not right. to maintain witnesses, the memory of witnesses. the availabili

tom foreman explains their strategy. >> reporter: several reasons. one, trump strategy, it slows everything down. anytime you do anything, it will slow the case down. all these lawyers, a lot of things will get slowed down. that is one of the slowing things. potentially more sympathetic jurors. you can debate this, but the notion is if you broaden the jury pool in a federal hearing further beyond fulton county, which will lean so much more bleen blue, you might get more trump supporters in there. and no tv, no cameras. and maybe more legal avenues for defense. the question is who else winds over there with them. >> and jack smith's office is investigating whether two mar-a-lago employees gave false testimony in the classified documents case. a court filing claims an i.t. worker not charged recently changed his story about potentially incriminating security footage. meanwhile the property manager de oliveira has pleaded not guilty. he is accused of lying to the fbi about whether he saw boxes with classified documents being moved around the resort. >>>

tom foreman joins me now. tom, they don't say who they are, who do we think they are? >> well, who we think they are based on what we have here is -- i don't mean to impugn, very likely the crackpot lawyers. >> just quoting mike pence. >> what he said about this, right. >> yeah. >> so let's go through the list. number one, rudy giuliani, former trump lawyer, he pushed election lies in public and in court, everybody knows that. if you follow this case at all. already facing lawsuits about some of the things he said. disciplinary actions related to that. john eastman, former trump lawyer. promoted the idea that the electoral certification could be stopped. a big champion of that idea and we from our coverage and he pushed a memorandum that vice president mike pence could overturn the election. we know that is not true. he never had that legal right. sidney powell, she was out there. former trump lawyer, widely promoted the baseless allegations of election fraud notably she was one of the really big names out there pushing the idea that there was something wrong with the

tom foreman is here to explain how this works. cutting back on allowing employees to work from home given that the name is synonymous of working from home, how do you interpret this? >> oh the irony, they want people back at least two days a week and joined other big names like google, amazon, salesforce and the u.s. government saying we want more people to come back to the office. the general reason you always have, they say it's more productive and more of a community and the synergy that people like to talk about, they want to get people back than they have been saying it will be better, including zoom. >> how are people responding, are they willing to come back in? >> not so well as you might expect. as you look at the numbers, they allow remote hybrid work, those firms in the period of time so i 5% increase in their work force, more people wanting to join, to .6% for those who want only in person, this really focuses on better educated younger workers who don't want to be trapped this way. generally employers want only one .6
