james galliano, tom fuentes sxx on the phone josh campbell and bob baer. bob, we haven't heard from you. just in terms of the sophistication of something like this, what do you make of what you have seen? >> well, what concerns me is the trip wire. we've got a guy that probably used a pressure switch or mercury switch in the first packages, and now he's switching tactics, letting us know that he knows his way around explosives. and he possibly, possibly has the ability to hide his signature, keep his dna off this stuff. as been said, he's been playing cat and mouse with the police. what's going to make it particularly difficult at this point to track him down is there's no obvious political motivation. he's not a neo-nazi. he's not a terrorist that we can tell because these targets seem random at this point. and, you know, are they all connected? two of them are connected, but the rest i don't think so. the other thing we don't know is what kind of explosives and what the initiator was. are we talking about military explosives, or are we just talking about

we're joined again by tom fuentes, also james galliano. have found a device that did not explode in this second fedex facility today, that provides them with even more potential evidence in terms of possible fingerprints or parts or any kind of signature that might correspondent to the signature of the other bombs. >> two things are important in doing the bombing investigations. the first part to your point, anderson, is the signature of the bomber. now, bombs are made up of components, usually a power supply like a battery. there may have been a blasting cap. there's usually some type of explosive, maybe shrapnel like nails, nuts and bolts, and then a switch. people have been erroneously stating all day that this is unibomber 2.0. this is far worse. the urineeun i bomber, was the lodgest case. 16 devices in 17 years. we now, if this link analysis can be confirmed, we now have seven devices in two weeks. this is a far greater investigation, far more important. i think the police caught a lucky break in finding some of these devices before

would like to bring in tom fuentes here at cnn, former fbi assistant director. tom, to jean's point, not a lot of information at this hour. we understand from the student on new day this morning that they typically have police officers. does it look like that may have been the reason there was such a quick containment of the situation? >> it does look like that, dave. i think even though there is not a lot of information, it is very significant, because very early in this incident they said, okay, we have a school shooting at this location, and then immediately almost said and the event is contained. that is normally going to be language that indicates the shooter is either dead, wounded, or arrested. and, you know, more to follow. could be a suicide, could be a police security officer intervened, that is still to be confirmed. but i would rule out wounded because we haven't seen an ambulance take the shooter out and on the way to the hospital. so to me that indicates that we either have an officer involved shooting to take out this suspect, or a suicide and that

. >>> let's get straight to our cnn law enforcement analyst tom fuentes and jonathan locknow. the response to the actual shooting and then of course the taking all the other precautions in the perimeter just in case. >> to ryan's point, that was made a moment ago, the secret service has to maintain a security posture that's 360 degrees around the white house complex in all directions. regardless of the incident. so while they do have to address the immediate threat, they also have to be mindful of, you know, is there a secondary attack, first of all, is this attack, if it is, is there a secondary attack? is this a diversiversionary tac? while at the exact same time, initiating the emergency preparedness response program that the white house complex has. which is a very well coordinated series of action steps that are taken to, one, respond to the direct threat and then, two, protect the property and people of the white house complex. >> and then tom, the president was not at the white house, is not at the white house right now. does the protocol change at all when the presiden

let's bring in our law enforcement analyst, tom fuentes and also with us, criminal defense attorney pageyour reaction, tom, to this verdict. >> i think we knew from the beginning it would be a difficult charge to prove. there has been very few women brought up on charges of aiding and abetting terrorism, or even obstruction of justice and terrorism investigation. and even though she made many conflicting statements, she made the argument she was afraid, that she had been fearful of her husband, so even though he may have gone to gun shops and she was aware of that, she feared to report anything to anybody. so i think that, you know, the jury was very sympathetic with her in this situation. >> page, your thoughts? >> i don't know, ana, if it was sympathy here or the fact she was a woman. i think the government was unable to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. the jury stayed out for several days trying to analyze the evidence. they had several questions for the judge, which show that they were focusing on what she knew and when she knew it. because it is not enough just to help her

i want to bring in our law enforcement team, james galliano, tom fuentes as well as josh campbell and bob baer. based on your experience with the fbi, what do you make of, a, this pattern and sort of the uptick in the number of blasts that we have been seeing? >> well, it's a very tough scenario. you know, each new day seems to bring some new dangerous development. i talked earlier with a law enforcement who has been briefed on the ongoing investigation, and he opined the fact that we have moved from a victim-initiated device to a trip wire shows that this is someone who is playing around with different packaging, different initiate ators, and this type of sophistication and knowing we're dealing with someone who can move across these explosive platforms shows just how deadly the situation is and how difficult the ongoing investigation is. i think it's important, anderson, to focus now on opening that dialogue with the person or the persons that are doing this with law enforcement. you know, we have to understand that there was a reason that this individual is doing this. authorities

. >> even former fbi director, tom fuentes told us last hour that, listen, if you lie to the fbi, if you lied in any capacity as an fbi official, you are going to be fired. that's just what he knows to be true. with that said, is there any recourse here? >> yeah, i think -- >> for mccabe? >> well it sort of remains to be seen. he has already started a public pressure campaign. i doubt that he is going to be able to get his job back to maybe try to get some of his pension. it's not really clear. i think the point that was just raised is an important one. we don't know what the inspector general's report says at this point. there are rheumers and we heard rumors for weeks in which this might impugn mccabe. but the larger question is this is the second time that we've seen someone from the fbi fired after a report from the fbi that, you know, obviously, referring to james comey. the last time this happened, there certainly was some question about the way in which it occurred. the fact that president trump has been so direct and so forward in criticizing andrew mccabe, clearly has been p
