with us now is tom jenkins, chief executive of european tour operators association.ighted to have you with us. that is the problem, isn't it? it is the carbon emissions story. here you have a massive industry, a growing industry, and it brings that problem with it. the answer is it is very difficult to divorce the carbon footprint, it the activities of tourism, from the wider society in which it sits. and i think 8% is the latest figure that it is a contested figure. it is still more than significant. i don't question that there is a significant issue and a significant discussion that has got to ta ke significant discussion that has got to take place. what i would plead is that tourism, particularly the sought after as in that my members represent, and i represent a group of people who sell europe as a destination throughout the world, and these people come to london and paris, and they support and sustain the commercial and cultural fabric of the cities. that is the dilemma ina of the cities. that is the dilemma in a sense. it is doing a lot of good, creating jobs a
