storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein begins our coverage, our time coverage, this half hour, tom. >>> good morning. i'm happy to report that much of the wade spread freezing rain we've had since last evening has broken up a lot. we just have scattered, light freezing rain. now these areas in pink advancing southwest to northeast. areas in green, that's some light rain now falling in much of prince george's county, charles, calvert, the eastern shore. further north and west, prince william, fauquier, much of fairfax county getting some light freezing rain. many of those locations have had about a tenth of an inch of ice and much of loudoun county as much as 0.3 of an inch of ice, a little over a quarter of an inch as well as around montgomery county, southern frederick and up into carroll county, those are the zones that got the heaviest icing. the pan hahandle of west virgin northern shenandoah valley. steven city up to winchester, they, too, got about a quarter of an inch of ice on the tree limbs and power lines. as a result we have power outages and we still have a winter storm wa

storm team 4's meteorologist tom kierein is here. s, tom, need to bring out the gloves and scarves and all of that today, right? >> yeah, dress for winter weather. a big change in temperatures. chilly morning. at or below freezing north and west of the metro area. some of the rain yesterday left some puddles and some of those may be freezing up a little bit so if the pavement looks wet far forth and west of the metro area, watch out. some of that could be patchy ice. it could be freezing up. it's above freezing in washington. southern and eastern suburbs, northern neck, eastern shore, most of those locations are in the mid to upper 30s. later today a disturbance will be passing over us. a chance of a snow shower this afternoon. partly sunny, blustery wind. gusting to 20 to 25 miles an hour even though temperatures will be in the 30s and low 40s. it will feel just like around 30 degrees with that gusty wind this afternoon. again, don't be surprised to see a snow shower quickly coming through or maybe a few scattered flurries generally

we're going to check in with storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein for your forecast.hen do you think we might see some precipitation, tom? >> this afternoon might get a few snow showers and flurries. that's part of our big weather story for this christmas eve day. this morning a chill in the air. winds are gusting to around 15 miles an hour. so the wind chills are down into the 20s. even though temperatures are in the low 30s in the metro area, feels like mid and upper 20s. the winds. dropping wind chills into the 20s. most of maryland and virginia, around the bay, wind chills around 30 degrees where temperatures are in the mid to upper 30s. yes, later this afternoon, disturbance passing over us may give us a passing snow shower. maybe a few scattered flurries. that's going to mean generally around 1:00 until around 5:00 p.m., that's when there is that possibility. i don't think we'll have any accumulation, just flurries or quick passing snow shower and blustery wind gusting 25 miles to 30 miles an hour. temperatures upper 30s and 40s but it will feel colder with that

. >>> storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is here with more on the icy conditions that are l e likely leading to these delays, tom. >>> yeah, we did get some drying overnight. so some of the roadways are dry. the main roads are dry but, yeah, many of the side roads, sidewalks, and front steps are icy this morning because temperatures are down below freezing all around the region. we're in the 20s now in prince george's count whyy, montgomery county, much of fairfax county, down into the low 20s. and then parts of northern virginia have dipped into the upper teens. i think it will continue to drop over the next couple of hours. rate now it's in the 20s, shenandoah valley, where the snow cover is still in place yesterday and still that icy crust and snow in place in our northern and western suburbs from that 3, 4, 5 inches of snow that fell up there yesterday afternoon. around the bay, eastern shore, most of those locations, too, have temperatures that are right around the freezing mark had morning. so by 7:00 sunny, about 18 to 20 degrees or so. watch out for the icy spots. we'll still

storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein joins us with his first forecast. tom? >>> good morning. right now 41 at reagan national. we started off below freezing, right around dawn. it was 41 here at northwest washington and near 40 right in the district. and we do have a storm team 4 radar, a few scattered snow flurries now in the panhandle of west virginia. we've had them also in washington county. they've pretty much dissipated. may be a few sprinkles of rain here coming in to some milder air. this is an upper-level disturbance farther north and west of us now up in western pennsylvania. that is southeast of pittsburgh and heading off to the southeast. this disturbance may have just enough moisture left. it's cold enough aloft for it to be snow falling initially and then melting maybe and turning into a few sprinkles of rain or a few passing snow showers or a few flurries, about a 30% chance of that, coming in by later this afternoon. temperatures right now are above freezing. most of the region. it's still cold with that wind gusting around 15, 20 miles an hour. the windchills

tom kierein is keeping an eye on the christmas forecast. tom? >>> good morning. it's dropped 25 to 30 degrees since then. reagan national down to 37 under a clear sky. northwest winds around 5 to 15. wind chills are in the 20s. temperatures will be hovering in the mid 30s through the mid morning. lots of sunshine and clouds will be building midday. i think by noontime we'll have our temperatures around 40 degrees. winds will be gusting to around 20 miles an hour and as a result our wind chill, even though temperatures near 40, the wind chills will start to be dropping down into the low 20s and it'll feel like the low 20s. even though it's hovering between noon and 4:00 or 5:00. it's between 1:00 to maybe 4:00 that we could get a few scattered snow showers, maybe a few flurries flying through the air. otherwise, just quite a bit of cloudiness for a time during the afternoon and the winds may be picking up a little bit more. i think gusting to around 25, maybe to 30 miles an hour by mid afternoon. that's going to bring in some colder air turning much colder tonight
