tom lee joins us. great to have you with us.utual fund managers are extremely desperate this year because they underperformed their benchmark so badly. >> yes. it's a gloomy year. i think everybody would like to just close the books and say let's forget this ever happened. it's the worst year for active managers really since 1999. there's about 77% of funds are missing their benchmark. it's a huge number. >> there are a number of funds on that knife edge that could go from slightly negative to slightly positive. this large cohort which is probably more than half of that 77% just needs one or two good days to actually beat the benchmark. we are talking about one basis point that could move the needle. i think you'll see people try to be opportunistic. it's been a topsy turvy couple of days. >> managers aren't going to sit there and hope for things to go up. what are they actually doing to get off that knife edge? >> right now, we are having a lot of conversations with clients thinking about what next year means for them. i think

tom lee is founder and head of his own research fund, fundstrat global advisers. good to see you. would you buy walmart at today's values, and how long do you expect you might need to wait to get paid if you would buy it? >> yes, i would definitely buy walmart today, because one, you know, it's an iconic company. i think in two years, the stock could easily rise 50%, and that's just having its pe go from 13 times to the retailer's average of 18 times. you might ask, well, if you're talking two years, why would you buy the stock today? i think a couple reasons. one is, you know, it's paying a great dividend yield. that's why it's a dogs of the dow. its dividend yield is 3.2%. that's well above how much its bonds are paying. so, if you're looking for income, you're way off better buying the stock than the bond. and the other is, the pe could actually go up next year because the pe's really based on earnings revision. and the cycle of negative earnings revisions is slowing, so there's a chance for the pe to go up next year before you start to get the earnings recovery in 2017-2018. >
