bullish tom lee. what happened? what happened to you, tom. >> i think i'm on another plane, another planet i mean, i'm still bullish long-term. i think we're only seven years into what i think is a 15-year period, where markets are going to re-rate but one of the challenges and something we've been worried about really since the start of this year is unless inflation picks up, the stock market is really outpacing underlying growth and, you know, if you look at the spread just between equity performance and gdp for the last five years, this is a 2,000 basis point per year gap -- i'm sorry, 800 basis point per year. same level you were in september 87 sp 87 so that quickly normalized and that's why we think moving to the 200 day sort of helps bring some equilibrium >> doc, don't couch tahe answer with how much you like tom, ow great he is guy, this, that, and the other thing. do you agree with him or not >> i love that tie >> thank you >> i don't agree with the 6% sell-off, but tom lee has made a living being accurate

we've got tom lee 4%, 45% downside and craig johnson 4%, 5% upside. what is going to be right and why? >> i think craig is right. the only question is what happens between now and year end. both could be right is what i'm saying i think we'll definitely end the year high. one thing i've wanted to point out in this whole discussion is there are stocks that have corrected nicely during this you know, i might point out, because he was talking about the f.a.n.g. stocks that amazon, just a few weeks ago was 10% off its high and that's one. belle weathers for this rally. now it's starting to regain momentum and only 8% off of its high hand the point i'm driving at here, even if you want to be agnostic as to whether or not the market will correct or not, this is it a diverse mark. you can stocks that are cheap and not just value traps that are cheap and have growth in front of them. you can't just buy the most expensive names out there and continue to have the rally. >> who is right and why, pete? >> i lean towards the bulls. i know that shocks you the one t

aining us now is tom lee, former bull turned a bear. higherrs are expecting interest rates.ining us. here is the thing. you have been calling for a recovery in value stocks. and stronger gdp and the weak dollar should be ideal conditions for that recovery. it has not been doubt. tom: no. value strategies have been a bust this year and our clients are skeptical about trying to i value. is buy growtho do and you have a great year. julie: this chart shows you the outperformance here by growth stocks and value stocks for the s&p 500. at what is going on in september. especially the last two weeks. tom: that is right. we have seen -- written a series of reports, and expose a of why is value, is it broken, how does it look in the context of history. we looked at 90 years of value versus growth. this is the longest slump ever in the history of value stocks for growth. it is worse than the mid--- the nifty 50 and the check bubble and we trace it to several root causes. one we think it has to do more importantly this year with flows. veryecond is something peculiar happened. normally

let's bring in tom lee, founder and head of research from fundstrat global advisors.hanks for joining us. wanted to talk about this increase in yields and the dollar we're seeing early this morning. we didn't really see a reaction to janet yellen's speech yesterday afternoon. are we seeing that reaction now? are the markets taking it as hawkish? >> i think that's a pretty good description of it. i think at the end of the day the trend has been for this year dollar has been really weak, now as a lot of technicians would know, the dollar is at a level where it may start to rally. with interest rates, i think it's a recognition that in a way globally we've reached the threshold where lower rates is tough to expect given how much accommodation is out there european high yield trading below u.s. equivalent treasuries are telling us rates are extremely low. >> we have about a 70% expectation of a december fed rate hike following the recent fed meeting and the speech yesterday. is that where you stand? what do you expect for next year >> i think that makes sense. i think the

lee. i like to follow up in part on the response and tom's here which is respect to -- the response of the us government. we've done a lot of things since 911 and yet it has been said that governments just don't do very well combating an ideology. how do you size of the government response from 911 to the present day? >> in many ways, it's been pretty darn good. we spent a lot of money, a lot of people including members of congress and leaders in this fight and we basically prevented any major 911 type attack on the homeland. that is a big accomplishment. they want to kill us. they want to hurt us as badly as they can. the effort is to attack in the united states and we prevented that. on the other hand, we haven't been so successful with our allies and they've had attacks in great britain, france, and recently, spain. as long as they are alive and tacking our allies and metastasizing or spreading around the world so that they are, as congressman called, they are in the philippines now, the second largest island, as long as they are growing and in some places indonesia and as long as they'
