i'm tom mcguire and i have the privilege of acting as the san francisco m.c.a. here to celebrate the opening of this beautiful train platform. this is going to be the best way to get to the chase center arena. we're exciting to be cutting the ribbon on that platform today. this arena will be the most sustainable, transit-friendly and most successful arena in the nba. to celebrate this opening, i would like to welcome mayor london breed. >> mayor breed: thank you, tom. there are a lot of folks here today to celebrate this platform, and i just want to start by thanking each and every one of you for being here and helping us to get the word out, but i especially want to thank the warriors. not only have they committed to making sure that this is the most transit friendly chase center anywhere, but they can put their money where their mouth is by making investments in our transportation system here in san francisco. this platform is just one of their many commitments to supporting transportation to chase arena for the over 220 events that they plan to host every sin

tom mcguire. i'm joined by jason hyde who's managed the scooter share program since the beginning. it's hard to believe that it's been more than a year since scooters first launched with that authorization last spring, and it seems that we've been back before you many times talking about the pilot program, and the six-month report on the pilot program, and now we're making the move with shared scooters and motorized bikes. i want to remind us of the journey that we've been on since the scooters launched back in april 2018 when we had one of the largest unauthorized launches in the u.s., and we moved very quickly to a regulatory pilot program that is the model for other big cities in the u.s. and now we've got an opportunity to make that permanent without losing the accountability that we have to scooter operators. with that, i'll turn it over to jason. >> thank you, tom. good afternoon, directors. i'm a senior planner in movable sfmta, here to talk about the next phase of the scooter permit program. so just a little bit of background. the program actually launched in april 2018 as

tom mcguire will keep that door open. the other issue you talked about, about the serious accidents where people got hurt. i want you to know. it is uncalled for to happen. i have seen on the streets lyft and uber drivers trying to chase the bonuses and boosts. while you did not be say the type of driver that caused this the third street and paul accident involved a lyft driver and his passenger. it didn't happen in the taxicab. i think it is important to realize that. we are more accountable to the city than they are. the companies do not really care about making the drivers more accountable to the city. i hope when you leave, you will leave a message that you have kept the cabdrivers accountable to the city and you can hope you tried to help boost the cabin does industry. i appreciate you mentioning taxis as part of your presentation. thank you very much. >> any public comment on the director's report? >> thank you. i did turn-in a card. anyway, speaking specifically on this item, thank you for the deeper dive on vision

[applause] >> thank you for drawing the connection between the changes we see on our streets and the choices that all of us make every day about how we get around san francisco. our goal is to make everyone feel like it is safe for kids to be able to walk to school or bike to school or get to school on the bus. the 190 crossing guards will be out on the street this week. they are here with one thing in mind, that is the safety of the children of san francisco. we have been doing a lot of work this summer to prepare the city for a safe start to the school year. we read striped 90 of the crosswalks around schools around the city. we've got troopers, we got transit assistance staff who ride the bus with her high school and medicals -- middle school students to make sure they are safe as they navigate the city, and we are ready for a safe start to the school year however you get around. the m.t.a. has got something for you to keep you safe. we are grateful for the support of the mayor and
