tom perez is standing by with our chief washington correspondent peter cook. >> i'm joined by secretarysee you. you heard the numbers about jobless claims. we have 55 straight months of private sector job growth, as the president points to all the time. we have other signs of improvement in the u.s. economy antenna plummeted below 6%. but so many americans are not feeling like they are part of this recovery. what do you think is the reason for that disconnect and what will you do about it? >> we are moving in the right direction, no doubt. we've never had 55 consecutive months of private sector job growth since we've been keeping record. we are moving in the right direction, but at the same time we have more work to do. we need to pick up the pace of the recovery and the president has put forth a plan involving raising minimum wage, a long-term transportation spending bill, passing conference of immigration reform. he has been using his executive actions to make sure we are practicing what we preach at the executive level with minimum wage for federal contractors. we are using regulator

tom fuentes is with us, former fbi, law enforcement analyst. alexander field is working through new information and evan perez is with us. he's our justice correspondent. he's in touch with his sources. evan perez, let me begin with you. you have from your sources up to five students shot. we know fbi is en route. we know atf is en route. what more can you share? >> brooke, the atf will be there to trace the firearm to figure out where he got it from. this is probably an area where frankly a lot of people come and have firearms in their homes. it might not be that much of a mystery for the fbi to -- i'm sorry, for the atf to figure out. that's something that has to be done procedurally to help with the local authorities. the fbi is also there to try to see if there's anything they can help to try to put together this suspect of the kid who carried out this shooting. trying to see if there's any behavioral analysis to explain what happened here, maybe what triggered this in the recent days. maybe there was some experience at school. those are the things that the federal law enforcement is going to be doing. the fear i'm h

perez. evan, how did we even get here. how did this report about a plan to resign even surface? >> reporter: brooke, the subject of tomhe department there has been the focus of a lot of meetings between the state, the federal officials, local officials, obviously, from that video that you just saw. some people are not on board perhaps yet with this plan. but i'm told that what is emerging is this idea to reform the police department, tom jackson, the police chief, has to go and the st. louis county police department will have to take it over to help bring in some of the reforms that the justice department is pushing for the police department in ferguson. obviously we know that they have a terrible relationship with the local community there. they have taken over a lot of the police work. this is just another step. >> what about a minute ago we talked about that officer. the pub electric public is iwai decision. do we have an estimate? >> probably mid-november, is what we're expecting. a lot of leaks have occurred recently about what is going on with the grand jury and a lot of speculation and a lot of people expecting

perez joins us with more, good morning. >> good morning, carol. this spran being discussed by local federal and state officials and the way it would work is this, once tom jackson, the police chief at ferguson, steps down, the st. louis county police department would take over management of the ferguson police department. now, this has been one of the focuses of the federal investigation that's been ongoing. i asked the attorney general eric holder in an interview just last week about this issue, and here's what he had to say. >> are you under any pressure? >> we've stood by him this entire time so. there's no change on that. >> carol, obviously that was a sound from the ferguson mayor, who we talked to last night at the end of a city council meeting. he was basically denying that this plan was in the works, but we do know that for federal officials leadership of this department is wuch tone of the issues. they believe for the department to move forward and reform itself, they have to have leadership change at the top. >> all right, evan perez reporting live, thanks so much. >>> investigators are now searching the eastern virginia coast for clues into w
