tom tom sawyer says there was nothing funny about hit pat-down. it spilled his urine bag. he had to travel 18 urine-soaked shirt and pants. >> i was mortified. i'm standing in front of them with my underwear and had to ask to pull it up. >> reporter: president obama said he asked officials to examine the security measures. >> what i said to the. the s.a. is refine and measure what we're doing is the only way to assure the american people's safety. >> reporter: many americans support full body scanners to protect them. >> i'd rather have a body scanner. >> reporter: a growing group are demanding the tsa change its ways, provide a more dignified way to fly safely. well, it's clear officials are feeling the heat from all levels from travelers. the question is if they will change these security procedures or modify them soon. maggie. >> don teague in dallas, thank you. we'll find that out now because joining us now from washington is tsa administrator john pistole. good morning. >> good morning, maggie. >> virtually every newspaper in the country quotes you saying you wouldn't change these and then backtracking saying this is an evolving process. so many are traveling. i want them to know what to expect. could you be as clear as possible. will you change the secure security procedures before the holiday? >> well, maggie, of course we're always evaluating and trying to assess what is the best possible way of conducting our security operations to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public. we know over the weekend that al qaeda issued new information that went into detail how they constructed the cargo bombs out of yemen. also very aware of all of the concerns raised by the american people, members of congress reflecting their constituent views, and those of the general traveling public who are concerned about what does this mean? so what i'm doing is working with security experts, both within tsa and the inspector general's office who did covert testing that found we were not thorough enough over the last several years to say are there other possible ways of doing screening that would also give some high level of confidence that everybody on every flight has been thoroughly screened. >> in the meantime you will continue with these pat-downs that some have called humiliating, violating, and demeaning? at the moment that is the plan? >> let me say first, maggie, that few people receive these pat-downs. they either alert through a walk-through metal detector or opt out of the advanced imaging technology. >> some who have don't like them and i don't know if you heard the story of this man who said that it was so aggressive his urine bag spilled. so my question is, why should anyone have to sacrifice dignity for safety? >> what it comes down to is that balance we've been talking about. and obviously great concern over anybody who has felt like they have not been treated properly or have had something embarrassing like that happen. the bottom line is how can we make sure we don't have an abdul ma ta la who opts out and does not get a thorough pat-down, has a non-metallic bomb on him that can cause catastrophic harm, kill hundreds of people in the air and perhaps on the ground. so that's that balance and between the security and the privacy. how do we work that. >> i'm sure you're aware of the internet movement calling for travelers as a way to protest your policies to opt out of full body scanners on wednesday and opt instead for the pat-downs. what would you like to say to people considering doing this? >> well, what i would hope that they would consider is the vast majority of people want to get home for the holiday, spend time with their loved ones. i would hate for those people who, again, over 80% of the people say we should use the advanced imaging technology, i saw another study, 78% said yes, we should enhanced screening. the vast majority of people including the 99% who do not opt out of ait through our experience, those people want to get home to spend time with family and loved ones. so, i just feel bad for those people who might be delayed because of the lines caused by people who want to protest. >> john pistole, thank you very much, sir, for your time. >> thank you, maggie. >> thanks. despite intense international pressure, north korea is ramping up its nuclear program. the rogue country has built a secret new uranium enrichment facility and cbs news national security correspondent david martin has more this morning from the pentagon. good morning, david. >> good morning. >> let us talk about this report first released in "the new york times" over the weekend. a scientist, a well known american scientist who has made visits before, goes to north korea and what does he see? >> he sees something he called stunning and astonishing, which is a fully up and apparently running uranium enrichment plant he said looked as modern as anything you would see in the united states. and they somehow did this while under economic sanctions. and of course one of the big mystery here is how they got the technology. >> let's, before we get to who might be helping them, let's talk a little about the united states envoy said this morning that this is not a crisis. however, the kinds of uranium and the sophistication of the technology there, while north koreans claim it's to use electricity, could very well be used for other purposes, could it not? >> it could. and when it comes to north korea, nobody puts much stock in the best case analysis that this would be used for electricity. the fear here is that while they are showing off this one plant, there's another secret plant someplace else in north korea we don't know about, that is already turning out bomb grade uranium. >> and all of this happening under sanctions. does it seem that somebody must be helping them in some way? and of the other part is the fear is that if they are making this uranium and it ends up weapons grade, north korea would sell this to about anybody who would want it. >> this is the whole proliferation issue. it appears that somebody somehow gave them some technology and how to build this sophisticated equipment that you need for enrichment. that somebody could be iran, that could be pakistan. north korea already has between 6 and 12 nuclear weapons, nobody wants to see them get more. the bigger concern as you mentioned is that they will sell bomb grade material to another nuclear wannabe, either a state like iran or syria or perhaps even worse a terrorist organization like al qaeda. >> david martin at the pentagon, we thank you for your expertise. >>> it is now 7:10. we want to give you a look at the headlines. jeff glor is filling in at the news desk. good morning. >> good morning to you and everyone. there is good news on children's health. a dramatic drop in emergency room visits after companies stopped selling cold and cough medicines for young kids. a study finds e.r. visits dropped by half. in 2008 the fda warned against using the medicine in children under two. >> tragedy at last night's los angeles lakers basketball game. a young boy died after he fell from a luxury box. the boy fell from the third deck at the staples center about 50 feet. it's believed he was taking pictures when he plunged to the floor. engine failure forced a delta flight to land back in new york. one of two engines on a boeing 767 bound for moscow failed after takeoff. the crew circled for an hour to dump fuel. 204 were on board. nobody was hurt. >>> we could learn today if a jaw bone found on the beach in aruba more than a week ago belongs to natalee holloway who disappeared five years ago. kelly is in the aruba capital. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jeff. that fragment of a jaw bone found on a beach here in aruba has been in the hands of investigators at the netherlands for dna testing for more than a week now. natal natalee's parents could learn as early as today. the new evidence, a jaw bone has been in the hands of investigators for almost a week. according to some experts by comparing the bone with holloway's dental records authorities should know if it's natalee's and this mystery may finally draw to a close. >> i believe that at this point in time the results are in their hands. >> they may simply be waiting for dna to confirm what they know. >> it was a blast. i had the best time. >> 18-year-old holloway disappeared during a senior class trip in 2005. her mother is desperately waiting for answers saying in a statement, there is no good answer whether it is natalee or whether it isn't. but no answer at all is most unbearable. holloway was last seen with joran van der sloot. he is currently awaiting trial in a prison for the murder of 21-year-old stephany flores last may. experts say if the jaw bone turns out to be holloway's it could be enough evidence for prosecutors to finally tie van der sloot to her death. >> the first element the prosecutors would have to prove in a murder case is that natalee is deceased. they would have that. they can combine it with joran's inconsistent statements, his confessions to having killed her. now they have a case against him. >> reporter: dna test results could be released today if in fact this jaw bone is part of the remains of natalee holloway there are a lot of questions for investigators, where are the rest of her remains and how did she die?
