a and the agriculture secretary tom vilsack joins me now.t costs are going up and this does affect people and on the other hand saying it is not that much, that a 20-pound turkey is just $1 there. so which is it? >> well, reality is we have got an economy that is growing. and obviously as a result of that we're going to see some increase in prices. we're also providing some help and assistance to families who -- with children, the child tax credit is going to help offset that dollar that folks are having to pay for that turkey. i think one of the big messages here is we're able to celebrate thanksgiving together. what a big difference from a year ago. we have 195 million americans who have been vaccinated and the result is we're now in a position to actually have family gatherings again. we're going to do everything we can to continue to try to help folks with these costs. that's why the president did what he did earlier this week with reference to gas prices. we're going to see an impact on that, to help family budgets, but at the end of th

ini . >> item so please to walk back to the agriculture committee, our second witness, secretary tom vilsack. sec. vilsack, welcome. you are recognized for your five minutes. >> thank you for the opportunity to be here today. i think you for the important hearing. it is an extraordinary set of complex factors to be examined when we talk about the livestock industry in the united states. many factors make it extraordinarily complex. inventories are down in these for a variety of reasons, whether drought, this reading -- disease or disruption in the supply chain. we are seeing high demand mystically. setting a record for exports this year. we know there is a high concentration in this industry and we know it creates capacity challenges, especially in beef and there is a need for additional capacity. that is one of the reasons why we began the process of establishing a $500 million fund. we have established input from those and put potentially utilizing this fund and we received over 500 comments and now in the process of analyzing those two establish the structure of the program. the expectati
