>> i can't dance. >> you know tom wheeler. this issue. there's a perception within the industry and people who know him and friends of his who suggest the president came out and put him in a bit of a corner he was not necessarily prepared for. >>no doubt that that appearance exists and there's no doubt when the president makes a statement as he did it gives that appearance whether tom really was completely influenced by it or not, i don't know. there may have been other factors. but appearance wasn't as good as the fcc would have liked. >> he has plausible deniability because he can say the president said it but then the internet we got 4 million comments about what to do and he can say we were flooded with people that -- he actually used the word "fair." we want to keep it fair. i love that. because fair means so many different things. they're going to decide which companies it's fair to and which they're not fair to. >> by the way, they say they're not setting prices. well, by defining what's on the price list you automatica

brad stone is there now with chairman tom wheeler. >> thank you betty.ek you approved some new network neutrality regulations. here you are in the belly of the beast. how has the reception been? >> i think they are my former friends. no, i think the most interesting thing is at how everyone is anxious about what the rules are about and how we structured them in such a way that they are built on the mobile model. we build them around what has worked for the last 22 years in terms of regulating the wireless industry in the united states so we can make sure that was adequate investments that would continue to come as a result of the fact that there is no rate regulation and no terrifying in those traditional kinds of monopoly regulation you heard so much about during the debate. the feeling i am getting here is people are saying they understand it better. sprint has said they support it. t-mobile has said they will continue investing under this. google fiber has said even though they are now entitled to common carriers, they will continue to investigate the

you had tom wheeler at a dinner last night.ow do you feel about title 2 getting passed by the fcc? >> we believe in an open internet. we actually supported the existing rules set in 2010 before they got overturned by the court. so we believe in an open internet. title 2 is the mechanism that was going to be -- that is being used to implement it. that legislation came about in 1934. we don't think the laws of 1934 should be used for 21st century networks. especially when they include wireline and wireless. this is full of innovation. we've dramatically changed what wireless does over the last 20 years. huge investments involved, great service to customers and especially one which the u.s. is leading the world. we have four carriers, two of which have already crossed 200 million covered. we have one of the lowest prices per minute of voice in the world. and today, the u.s. is the undisputed leader when it comes to smartphones. so we think that before you take heavy handed approach to regulation, we should think twice. light hande
