a whole movement about being present and this relates to that but it might be slightly different, tomac because i think that there's a difference between living moment to moment and being in the habit of consideration. and i kind of silo people immediately. when i'm practicing this habit i take a moment to try to see them and try to see the person and in doing so, i think it develops in me a certain amount of empathy and i think vulnerability and empathy are in a lot of ways the same thing. they are just sort of labeled a little bit differently from each other. and then also trying to practice what i preach which means when i'm feeling defensive or angry to say like consider what's going on with you and to try to sort of move into the discomfort of those emotions and be okay with that, that is another way of being vulnerable. i was interested in what you talk about in the way that women at least so far have kind of lead the way in reimagining what it means to be a woman and that the movement in the 1960s the same way that it helped all of us understand, expand our understandings of what

i've worked on and that's saying something because there's been a lot of research in those books, tomac there is more than 1600 combined days of combat and over a decade along period you can only imagine how many different people they served with, how many lives they touched, how many people they saved. so we just wanted to talk to anyone who was willing. we were not able to talk to everyone. a lot of that is because in the case of the navy seals especially, there were multiple guys deployed while we were writing the book although some of them to their infinite credit actually called me from the war zones and i'm just so appreciative and of course those we were not able to speak to i completely understand, but this book couldn't have been written without the help of those seals and green berets and infantry soldiers who served all the way back and then of course those family members and their friends. this book is for them. they did a tremendous job helping us and continue helping us to this day. >> host: did you interview together? >> guest: most of the time it was me. beau did definit
