i would like to welcome director forbes and tomlin. i look forward to working with both of you to ensure that the t.g. p.a. continues to meet the diverse needs in the community in the bay area, and our transit riders. our operations center, staff continues to work with our transit operators and our new retailers to identify issues as they arise. we have identify several areas in our option staffing, and the transit operators and the retailers, and they're working very well. i'm pleased to report that they will open both locations in early march. they are in the final steps of their improvements completion, and they're starting to gear up for operations. having since opened with vibrancy in the transit center, we have s.f. open. we expect to have 50% of the figures to be opened in the next two or three months. we're about 80% leased. we expect all leased areas to be opened following this yearin the fallof this yea. i would like to update you on an issue that was mentioned -- authority was mentioned in a federal complaint related to our

i think it would be great to have director tomlin here at a future meeting and talk, as we drill down into some of the details here. i had a couple of comments and questions. one is just on the -- i understand the comment that the recommendations here are driving the budget process. i appreciate understanding -- ie goal -- or is there a commitment in the budget process to have the proposed budget reflect fully funding all of the shortfall in hiring that is needed by this target of summer of 2021? soor is that still up for discussion? i'm wondering if there is an m.t.a. commitment that the budget that is being developed now will reflect fully funding the gap identified in hiring by the working group? >> the sfmta board is deeply committed and focused on operator hiring and has strongly endorsed our plan to go to a class every five weeks. and is also supportive of my work to use existing vacancies to make sure we're increasing the trainers in order to keep up with that. so we're very much on track with full board support to address the operator shortage. we're -- right now the m.t.a. bo

i am very pleased, jeffrey tomlin, the new sfmta director reached out to the -- us and attended the last meeting. it's important that they think that small business success is very important to their success because they also rely on sales tax dollars, and so he very much really understands and articulated well how some of the past behaviors and actions have not necessarily fared well for small business. and while he cannot go back and correct those, but really wants to work on improving things moving forward. so it was a really great conversation. he wants to explore things like large businesses are able to buy muni passes in bulk purchasing because they're doing purchasing for a large company, and how can a merchant group still be able to do bulk muni passes? so he's really -- i think he's got his thinking cap on, is really looking at exploring ideas that can help small businesses save some money. so i look forward to, you know, what's ahead. and -- and -- and he also has met with the small business working group. so -- and he did say that he has not yet met with the vice -- or he may

one of the other things when director tomlin comes that would be important to know: what is the average hiring time that it takes to get operators into your agency? one of the things that we're confronted with at d.p.h., it takes almost six months to get someone in the door. so during that time, if you're in an area that has a competitive market, people are going to leave. so one of the things we've heard from the operators is, people will come in, they'll get trained, and the wage rates -- and i know you went through a protd oprocess of negotiation last year, and i think it was an increase -- but if people are waiting for job offers, they're going to take jobs other places. it would be important to know what the hiring time is. if that hiring time is extended, we need to think about a way to, again, working in the labor management and environment, that we're getting into an accelerated fashion. >> chairman: thank you. so, we will continue to work with you over not just the 18 to 24 months, but for years to come. i'm going to open this up to public comment, and please ask roger and folk
