director tomlin, please continue.ll right, continuing with my director's report, i want to give a quick update on the budget last week. on wednesday, we presented our budget to the board of supervisors budget and appropriations committee. we heard a variety of comments from committee members who are eager to work with us in order to help close the mta budget gap, they asked us about, federal funding through grants, opportunities for more vending, leasing, redeveloping our land, as well as merchandizing our brand, bree mcwhorter will be back for the second hearing tomorrow at the board of supervisors committee. and then, our budget goes forward for an up or down vote at the board of supervisors, and then onward to the mayor, next up, a quick update on west portal. as you all know, mayor breed and supervisor melgar asked us to make some very rapid traffic safety improvements at the intersection of west portal and yolo, staff quickly put together some proposals that focused on left turn restrictions at that intersection.

there was some positive news as director tomlin noted. we'll also have a little conversation about the regional measure and other items that we have on the list to raise revenues within the organization and work towards reducing our costs. we have completed our long range financial forecasts. so now we have a real sense, even beyond five years, what we need to do up to 10 to 20 years that will be coming to you likely in august, in the fall, one of those specific items, which is a follow up from your board workshop and an action you took during the budget, was an update on fare compliance. so we're developing a schedule now. we're in the process of hiring ten transit fare inspectors right now to begin that process. we're also working on a communications campaign that will be tied to the fare changes you approved as part of the budget. so we'll go into detail on that, some of the actions and take your feedback on how to move that forward. and then lastly, we do need the mta board. you've been asking for a long time and it's taken us some ti
