black horror? >> yeah, i mean, i've always loved horror. it's one of my favorite genres. and i think when i first read beloved by toniorrison, i realized that it can be a really great way to explore kind of the lost parts and, you know, purposefully erased parts of black history and to kind of have a more nuanced conversation about the things that happened in the past that i think especially for me, like in high school, i didn't get to learn about a lot of that. and i kind of got a one sided point of view of seeing how, oh, our history is like full of so much trauma. and so for me, i really wanted to write something that was a bit more well-rounded and talked about also our successes and our triumphs, and just was really honest about the history and also, you know, gave a younger audience a way to engage with their past and kind of connect with their ancestors in ways that weren't just, like full of trauma and sadness. but, you know, we have more fun tropes and like monsters, like vampires, and there's romance. my two main characters are lesbians, so there's a lot of representation in my books. and i really wrote it
