our colleague tony carnevale will comment in a moment who has documented that about 60% of u.s.obs will, in fact, require some college by the year 2018. so if you think 2025 is an audacious and ambitious goal for getting the 60%, tony would tell you we don't have that long to get to 60%. so all of this effort which is reflected in a number of states, governors, higher education associations, higher education institutions all increasing their focus on increasing the numbers of students who go to college but even more importantly, who complete college and finish with a college degree or credential is something that i think is driving a lot of our work and a lot of the national discussions around higher education. but along comes the question of are we, in fact, getting out ahead of the american people? is this something that is too much of an inside baseball kind of discussion where we're talking to ourselves about the value of education? and it's not really recognized or not really understood by the public? how does the public see these issues? do they also see this shift taking
