he was bested last night by tony evers. close in that race that nbc couldn't make the call until 3:30 in the morning. what exactly pushed tony over the line? >> stephanie, wisconsin is known for these extremely close races, especially when governor scott walker is involved. last night was no exception. nbc news has tony evers as the apparent winner in this race and to be clear governor walker has not conceded this race just yet. his lieutenant governor came out and spoke to the crowd last night saying the fight is not over and suggesting this will be a long, drawn out recount battle. let's gain that out a little bit. a recount can only be called here in wisconsin if the margin is within one percentage point. it can only be requested after the county boards have officially submitted their results. tony evers' campaign is celebrating the victory, democrats believe they have the victory and the margin to push them over the finish line. here's what people at the tony evers event had to say last night. >> i feel like for too lon

democrat tony evers beating out two-time incumbent scott walker. he has not conceded defeat. joining me republican congressman sean duffy. i'm sure you spoken with governor walker. what is the thinking with his camp? >> well, listen, it is still close. we don't want to concede quite yet. listen, we're down. what happened, democrats had big turnout in madison or dane county. it is progressive area in northern part of the state, very liberal area. democrats turned out. in some more republican areas like suburbs milwaukee we didn't get turnout we needed to blunt that. it was a close night. a sad night if this turns out we think it may, governor walker loses. charles: congressman, you just painted, that was the picture in every state. urban areas came out big for democrats. rural areas came out big for republicans. seems like the swing, the pendulum is the suburbs. maybe, maybe, the one thing we learned last night, was that republicans are beginning to be in trouble in the suburbs. are you feeling that as well? >> so, democrats were able to run a campaign saying we don't like the

a landslide and scott walker lost his seat, replaced in the governor's mansion in wisconsin by tony evers, after the evers, the democratic candidate got more votes. democrats did great. they won every statewide race in wisconsin. and now look at this. this is the story of our time. well, democrats were busy sweeping every statewide race in wisconsin, they also absolutely swept the state assembly. so people voting for their state legislator. way more people went to the polls in wisconsin on election day in wisconsin and voted for a democrat for their state legislator than voted for a republican. democrats got a majority of the votes. clearly 53% of the votes cast for state legislators or cast for republicans. democrats beat them by an eight point gap in terms of the legislature. and now look at the results in terms of seats won in the legislature. even though democrats got a big majority of the votes, even though the republicans did not get half the votes that were cast for the legislature, republicans got 64% of the seats. why is that? because they tilted the playing field. they drew the

about a 12,500 statewide lead for tony evers over scott walker. where is the vote left?robably the biggest, single place, about brown county. this is green bay and surroundings. scott walker doing very well here. you expect him to make up some of this here. also in baron county, a place where donald trump got about 60% of the vote in 2016, you can expect walker to make up some there. these are smaller counties down here. evers might do well here. one thing i've been looking for in wisconsin, this state was home to proportionally -- they call them pivot counties. 20 of them in wisconsin. a lot of them right down in this corner of the state. you can see evers winning back -- i think he's winning back a half dozen pivot counties. that's the development in wisconsin. in montana, jon tester trying to hold off matt rosendale. you see tester leading statewide. here's what i can show you quickly. tester had a close re-election in 2012. in a lot of key counties, if you just start looking at them, flathead county, republican county. in 2012 when tester won re-election, he only got
